NTU Professional Recognition: AdvanceHE Fellowship

NTU Professional Recognition Scheme offers all colleagues, at any stage in their career, the chance to celebrate the fantastic work they do in supporting learning and teaching at the institution and gain AdvanceHE Fellowship status.

How the Fellowship scheme works

Staff development session

NTU is accredited by AdvanceHE to award Fellowship in recognition of an individual’s contribution to learning and teaching in Higher Education against the internationally recognised Professional Standards Framework.

The Professional Standards Framework acts as a reference point throughout an individual’s career. It recognises continuous career development and progression of knowledge and practice across a range of learning and teaching activities and into influential strategic roles.

The four categories of Fellowship are:

  1. Associate Fellow
  2. Fellow
  3. Senior Fellow
  4. Principal Fellow

By gaining Fellowship status, you join a strong community of scholars who share and develop innovative practice both globally and at NTU, where we have over 1,600 colleagues who hold a Fellowship category.

Fellowship status may be a requirement for professional development, promotion or meeting objectives.

Our recognition scheme

We are enhancing our recognition scheme as part of our aim to develop a learning community that engage, share and enhance learning and teaching, not only at NTU, but across the sector.

We work closely with colleagues to develop the contact and content on offer, and as a result, we have increased the number of applications from non-academic posts such as Employability, Student Support and Technicians.

Our NTU Fellowships MSTeams space (staff log-in required) has offered a welcoming space for colleagues to contribute to communal resources such as a virtual bookshelf. Colleagues support each other during and even after their application. Colleagues may also volunteer to be Fellowship Champions for their department as a beacon for budding applicants. Find yours in the HEA Fellowship Learning Room or simply contact us.

There are several submission points throughout the academic year to offer colleagues flexibility as to when they can submit. These occur in October, February and June.

Completing my fellowship submission helped validate that my expertise was valued and made an impact on students learning and teaching. This empowered me to be bold in the questions I asked, projects I led, and made me a better student officer and now educational developer, ultimately improving my practice and the experience of students.
