Over the past year, Nottingham Trent University (NTU) students have benefitted from the support of Morgan Sindall Construction through placement and graduate opportunities. They have heard first-hand from the business on topical subjects such as supply chain management, innovation, and the implications of Brexit.

In addition, Morgan Sindall Construction has facilitated mock assessment sessions and attended careers fairs. The company’s contributions to curriculum design and development, and to the ADBE Industry Advisory Board is helping NTU to ensure its programmes are current and aligned to meet future technological and economic changes.

During the next three years, both organisations will continue to focus their attention on enhancing the student experience, to provide a work-ready supply of talent, while pushing industry boundaries to further develop teaching and learning approaches.

With a strategic work-plan based on the key themes of thought leadership, research and development, and work experience and employment, both organisations will continue to benefit from the partnership.

Future plans are underway for summer 2019 student placements, mock assessments and career fairs, as well as a series of thought leadership podcasts starting with one examining social value in construction, which will be released later this summer.

Furthermore, Morgan Sindall Construction will be recognising the achievements of NTU students by sponsoring the award for Creating the Relationship Between Quantity Surveying & Social Value at the 2019 Graduation Ceremony, which will be presented by the company’s area director in the Midlands, Richard Fielding.

The successive phase of the partnership will see Morgan Sindall Construction reinforce its support of NTU’s students with valuable employer-led industry exposure, through continued guest lectures, mentoring, and site visits.

The developing relationship will also see the transfer of knowledge between employees of both organisations through shared CPD opportunities.

Katrina Woodward, Strategic Partnership Manager - Construction & Sustainability, NTU, explained, “The relationship between Morgan Sindall Construction colleagues and NTU staff, developed through the Strategic Partnership, is delivering mutually beneficial activity across Talent, Skills, Innovation and Research.  Our students are gaining industry insights and exposure to the world of work from a leading employer, through the transfer of knowledge and hands-on experiences. It’s exciting times – together, we are shaping the future generation and preparing them to be the evolving workforce to drive up productivity and embrace technological and economic change.”

Sean Bowles, Morgan Sindall Construction’s Managing Director in the region, added: “Working in close partnership with NTU has been immensely rewarding over the past 12 months– on both a personal level as a former student, and for the business.

“In the past year, we’ve collaborated on initiatives to develop and inspire students and industry professionals. Leading the debate around skills and talent in the built environment through our #FutureFitWorkForce campaign has been a particular highlight.

“I look forward to similarly productive years ahead and tackling key agendas like digital adoption in construction, and how we can best shape industry culture to attract Generation Z.”
