BA (Hons) Business Management and Human Resources students blaze the trail at NBS and CIPD Careers in HR event

NBS students present their work on ‘the future of Human Resource practices post-pandemic’ to HR specialists.

In March 2022, students studying the BA (Hons) Business Management and Human Resource had the chance to present their work on ‘the future of Human Resource practices post-pandemic’ to a number of HR specialists from various sectors at the ‘NBS and CIPD Careers in HR event’ at Nottingham Business School (NBS). This event was organised collaboratively by the NTU course team and the CIPD Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire branch. The event offered students the opportunity to network with HR leaders across different specialist areas, learn from their experiences and understand what working in these areas involve.

Students delivered presentations to the invited guests, summarising key issues in selected HR practices, and constructing SMART recommendations to address them. The presentations were also designed to allow students to demonstrate excellent ability in consulting skills and effective communication, but most importantly to network and learn from feedback and discussions with the invited HR professionals. We believe that acquiring these expertise and abilities would further enhance our students’ employability prospects and their ability to achieve intended career goals through discussions about ‘real’ challenges facing the HR profession.

Students and guests alike commended Nottingham Business School for the opportunity to gain valuable insight at this event. Students felt that the event improved their learning and put theory into the context of real Human Resource Management challenges.

The ideas, inspiration, and solutions the students offered to resolving various issues around HR practices provided a catalyst for idea generation and problem solving within the Human Resource practice.

Being able to identify the problems and creatively identify evidence-based solutions was both fun and insightful. I am grateful for the amazing HR department who are continuously striving to support our professional development!

The collaboration between our students, who are the next generation of HR professionals and practitioners and industry experts, and those currently providing business and HR-specific solutions, further encapsulates NBS’s ambitions. NBS strives to impart knowledge to students on the concepts and theories of business, but also introduces them to best practice in businesses and real-world challenges that may be encountered in the industry. Congratulations to all who participated in this memorable event.
