Showcase 2022 Student Spotlight: Sarah Ball

Student Spotlight featuring BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology student, Sarah Ball and her project, ‘The Spotlight’ Community Theatre.

‘The Spotlight’ Community Theatre by Sarah Ball

BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology

My project is a community theatre within Nottingham that provides workshops and courses while still operating as a public theatre where the general public can purchase tickets to shows and performances. The proposal features an auditorium situated within a central courtyard with amphitheater seating which creates a unique theatre experience. As a result of drug and alcohol related crimes in the area being approximately 7.5 times higher than the national average, the project aims to provide support in the form of workshops and courses for those suffering from drug and alcohol addiction, and present opportunities that they may not have access to otherwise. The proposal seeks to create a non-judgmental, collaborative environment in order to help these individuals release their creative potential while developing their confidence and social skills.

Sarah Ball, creator, said: “Overall, I have found this project challenging yet rewarding as I have been able to push myself to develop a proposal that I am proud of from scratch. I chose this particular theme of a communal theatre as it is something that I’m passionate about and would have the potential to make a real difference within the community.”
