We understand the importance of mutually beneficial interactions, and value the time and expertise that employers bring to our students’ development. That’s why there is still no charge associated with our careers’ events, initiatives and marketing opportunities.

To begin the launch of our new offer, we were keen to uncover why organisations choose to work with NTU to address their business needs.

The benefits of hosting a short-term placement

We have tailored support available to businesses of all sizes and stages of infancy. Roemer Barnes Consultancy - a specialist education consultancy and bid writing business based in Nottingham – were 2 years old and had just 1 full-time employee when they got in touch with the team earlier this year.

Established within the market, Roemer Barnes were ready to grow and expand their client base:

“To test our readiness for this expansion we offered two 12-week work placements in early 2022 which were both successful and led to increased revenue for the business and demonstrated the potential for additional staff to join. This has led to our decision to offer a 1-year paid internship to support our plans for business growth into 2023."

To make this happen:

"NTU Employability supported us with identifying the skills we were looking for and putting together a job description that reflected the current position of the business and highlighted how an individual could make a difference. The team spoke about the different backgrounds of the students and how their course would give them different skillsets which could benefit the business and bring new ideas. They have also helped with the interview process including room bookings and scheduling interviews to ensure that each applicant would receive detailed feedback and further support."

Adam summarised that taking on the short-term placements:

“highlighted the need for talented support as a key part of our growth plans. By bringing in talent from NTU it has helped identify areas for improvement within our business and has meant we have been able to introduce more efficient ways of working that allow us to work smarter not harder and continue growing the business.”

Shared successes when utilising NTU Employability services

Many businesses have long-standing relationships with NTU and have been recruiting placement students for many years. One placement provider emphasised the shared benefits experienced when leveraging the support of the Employability team and use of our facilities to host interviews:

For the student it is very often the first real touchpoint with the industry, and it helps them to understand what exact job role they would like to follow in their young career. For us as the employer we get valuable young talents with a different and fresh view on product and teamwork.
