NTU Green Week – 2025

Starting on 10 March 2025, Green Week at NTU is an exciting opportunity for students and staff to explore global sustainability challenges and take meaningful action. Throughout the week, various interactive events and workshops will reduce eco-anxiety, promote positive behaviour change, and drive climate action.

‎‎Organised by the Sustainability Team, Green Week sees collaboration across departments such as NTSU, NTU Sport, NTU Global, and academic schools. Together, we’ll lead practical activities,  provide educational opportunities and showcase innovative research that aims to make a real impact, locally and globally, towards a more sustainable future.

Biodiversity Crisis Webinar

Join SOS-UK for an online session to find out more about the global biodiversity crisis. Gain insights into the main factors contributing to the decline in global biodiversity, discover innovative solutions and learn how you can take action in your local community.

An introduction to UK wildlife crime

Join Elliot Doornbos, Senior Lecturer in Criminology at NTU for an informative online session on wildlife crime and trafficking in the UK. Learn what is an offence, how we record them and the drivers of wildlife crime. The session will include specific case studies including UK species such as bats and raptors alongside the UK's role in the international trade in endangered species.

Hedgehog Health Webinar

Join SOS-UK for an online session designed to teach you how to identify a sick hedgehog and when it needs help from a rescue, along with hedgehog first aid. Learn how to recognize the signs of a hedgehog that may be unwell or in distress and gain practical knowledge about how to safely help a poorly hedgehog and take it to a rescue.

Balancing innovation and sustainability: Reducing costs and carbon footprints in IT

Join Lance Carr (DT) and Peter Manning (Sustainability) to discuss how improvements in digital technologies, can impact cost and energy savings.  We’ll explore whether NTU’s Digital Technologies team’s use of a Data Gathering Application and Data Retention Schedule can support NTU in reducing our environmental impact, questioning if these digital advancements can be as energy-efficient as they are cost-effective.

Wildflower seed planting  (City)

Join us for a hands-on session of seed planting at Nottingham Trent's City Campus. Get your hands dirty and learn about sustainability while helping us spread native wildflowers across our campus. Funded by Bug Life UK, this event is perfect for all plant enthusiasts. Let's grow together and make our campus greener!

Eco crafts with Student Services (City)

Green Week x Wellbeing Week

Join NTU Student Services and NTU Sustainability for a fun, mindful session creating eco crafts.  We will be making natural bird feeders, seed bombs and bug houses from recycled materials. Meet like-minded others whilst spending some downtime that supports the environment.

Experimental natural dyeing using modifiers (City)

Waverley Dye Garden technical staff are organising a natural dye sign up session exploring colour modification using modifiers on textiles. Natural dyes are widely used in the Dye, Bio and Print workshop areas available to students across the Art and Design School. Come and explore the use and benefits of natural dyes and learn how you can get involved in Waverley Dye Garden.

Hedgehog Friendly Campus activities (Mansfield)

Join NTU Mansfield for a day filled with interactive activities to support their Bronze Hedgehog Friendly Campus accreditation. There will be a stall from SOS-UK teaching all things Hedgehog, a Climate Café over lunch and a Hedgehog survey workshop in the afternoon.

Climate Ambassador Scheme- How to get involved

This session will introduce the Climate Ambassadors Scheme, a Department for Education (DfE) funded programme that aims to support nurseries, schools and colleges to develop and deliver impactful climate action plans as a response to the DfE's Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy. The growing network of volunteer Climate Ambassadors in the East Midlands is working hard to provide this support, but there are still many opportunities to get involved and join the network. Come along to find out more about the role and how to get involved.

Meet Tusker and view an Electric Vehicle

The University's new provider of the Electric Vehicle Salary Sacrifice, Tusker, will be hosting a stall to share information about the salary scheme; how this works and what cars would be available to you. A Tusker electric vehicle will also be in the Clifton Colleague (south gate) car park to view.

LEAF 101: Sustainable Labs at NTU (Clifton)

As part of the School of Science and Technology's (SST) commitment to supporting NTU's net zero carbon 2040 goal, the SST technical team, in partnership with Sustainability, have been working to implement sustainable lab practices. Join us for a talk on the LEAF (Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework) initiative, developed by UCL, which helps labs reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. Learn how the Forensics technicians earned a Gold Award in 2024 and how their efforts are paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future in research.

As a flagship event of Green Week 2025, this spotlight occasion will bring together colleagues from across the university who have played a key role in "Embracing Sustainability" within operations, curriculum, research, and partnerships. It will be an opportunity to celebrate the successes of the past year, with participants invited to showcase their work, share insights, and network with a diverse group of colleagues driving sustainability efforts in their own innovative ways.

The Swap Shop is run by NTSU's Fashion Society every Tuesday and is the perfect way to get your fancy dress costumes sustainably and at no cost. The clue's in the name – all you need to do is bring along an item of fancy dress and swap it with one from the Swap Shop.

Overheated Screening at Confetti X

Join us Tuesday 11 March 5 pm at NTU's Confetti X as we screen the documentary Overheated which sees “activists turning climate anxiety into action". The screening will be followed by a discussion led by Mammoth - A Climate Action Cinema, with academics from across NTU who specialise in climate science, global policy and sustainability in the creative industry.

Climate Cafés

We recognise eco-anxiety is widespread so it’s important to have a space to connect. Join us for a Climate Café between 12 - 2 pm on Thursday 13 March at our City, Clifton, and Brackenhurst libraries to meet like-minded others and discuss your thoughts on eco-anxieties.

Co-hosted by the NTU Sustainability, Wellbeing, and Libraries and Learning Resources teams, these informal meetups will provide an opportunity for students and staff to share their thoughts, concerns, and ideas on sustainability. Refreshments will be provided.

NTU Sustainability Award

Run by NTU Employability, students can earn Sustainability Award points and certification for the sustainability-related extracurricular activities they get involved in outside of their studies. Make sure to log any events you attend as part of Green Week and begin enhancing  your CV.
