Amy Kyte, Collaborative Engagement and Retention Team Coordinator

Where have you volunteered/do you volunteer?

I currently volunteer as a Consent Workshop facilitator at NTU, and also for a scheme in Derby that conducts mock interviews and delivers CV development sessions to school pupils. In the past I've also been a leader in Girlguiding.

Why did you want to volunteer? / Why is it important to you?

I enjoy giving my time to positively impact others, as well as being able to gain experience outside of my day job to expand my skillset and confidence.

What impact has volunteering had on you? / How has volunteering helped you?

Volunteering has had a huge impact on me! The volunteer roles I've done have all involved working with people in some way so I've developed my confidence, presentation and facilitation skills, communication skills, and leadership skills. I'd say it's also developed my time management as I have to be able to fit it around my other commitments. Plus, I've met some great people!

What advice would you give to people thinking about volunteering?

I'd say that starting by taking some time to consider what you want to do is important - when you're juggling giving your time for free alongside other things that absolutely have to be done, it needs to be for a cause that you really connect with and that motivates you.
