Fellows Exchange 2025: Breaking Barriers in the Workplace

On 3rd April 2025, the Alumni Relations Team hosted the second Fellows Exchange event; an event made for our NTU Alumni and Industry Fellows who volunteer within the NTU Alumni and Industry Fellowship Programme. Following our inaugural event in 2024, we wanted to curate another opportunity for Fellows to meet, network and develop professionally.

This year’s Fellows Exchange: ‘Breaking Barriers in the Workplace’ was an event to hear from those who have overcome prejudices to succeed in their career, and who all have their own unique and inspiring journeys from across the professional sphere.

The panel host Lorna Baisley discussing the theme 'Breaking Barriers' with the panel including Daniel Ellis, Joe Mairura, Amy Smith and Charlie Martin.

The panel, hosted by Alumni Relations Executive Lorna Baisley, included Daniel Ellis Fletchergate Industries CEO and Co-founder, Dr Joe Mairura the Director of Imara Development Programmes, Amy Smith a Senior Cost Consultant in the built environment sector, and Charlie Martin a motorsports racer and LGBTQ+ community ambassador.

Starting with pre-submitted questions from attendees, the panel discussed their experiences in the workplace. The discussion explored barriers they have faced, what we can collectively do to make our professional environments welcoming and how they have done this themselves.

After the panel, the event led into networking where the lively and interesting conversations continued. Attendees enjoyed discussing the experiences of the panellists and sharing their own stories and thoughts around breaking down barriers.

Thank you to all of our Alumni and Industry Fellows for their attendance and continued support, making events like this possible.
