Apprenticeships at Experian

Nicola Lamplough, Head of Early Careers at Experian, outlines why the organisation decided to implement apprenticeships and how NTU apprentices have impacted on them and the local community.

Why did your company choose to offer apprenticeships?

We chose to implement apprenticeships as they are a fantastic way to develop a pipeline of diverse young people to key roles in our organisation.

It is a route that means we can give back and contribute to the development of skills, education and work experience in the wider community and across the UK.

When did you start implementing apprenticeships?

We have been using the apprenticeship scheme, since the levy was introduced in 2017 but we first set up a formal in-house apprenticeship programme for school/college leavers in 2021.

What impact have apprentices had on your business?

The apprentices we have recruited so far have had a positive impact on the teams they are in – bringing a pipeline of talent to the business areas in areas such as technical roles, where we struggle to recruit experienced hires.

How has the partnership with NTU enhanced your apprenticeship programme?

We currently have a small number of apprentices on years 1 and 2 of the Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship, who are in Software Engineering roles and this is a pipeline we intend to build annually via this route.

Would you recommend apprenticeships to other businesses?

I would definitely recommend taking on apprentices to other businesses, as it as it’s a great way to grow early talent in your business and attract a diverse range of individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Additionally, it feels like you are giving back to the community by developing young people and helping them to take their first steps on to the career ladder.

How has NTU's apprenticeship provision aided your business?

The Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship course is appropriate to our needs and NTU is close to our offices, which means our apprentice trainees can benefit from face to face study time and experience university ‘student’ life alongside their professional life in the business. As a local employer, we have a close relationship with both Nottingham Universities and the Apprenticeship team at NTU are always very helpful and responsive to our needs.
