Due to the government’s recent restrictions we have taken the decision to postpone our Summer 2020 graduation ceremonies.

We know how important these celebrations are for you to share and celebrate your achievements with family, friends and tutors. As one of the highlights of the academic year, we would like to reassure you that you will still be given the chance to attend a graduation ceremony.

  • Is my graduation being postponed or cancelled?

    We are postponing the Graduation ceremonies for Summer 2020. It is important to us that we celebrate student success. All students will have the opportunity to attend ceremonies, which we hope will be before the end of 2020. This is subject to further information on when government restrictions on large gatherings and essential travel will be lifted.

  • Will I be invited to a bespoke event for my graduating cohort?

    We are planning a bespoke occasion before our Winter/December 2020 ceremonies. The timing of these will be determined by UK government advice regarding events and travel and the prospect of international travel returning to normality. Once we have a new date for your graduation ceremony we will let you know using the contact details we currently have.

  • What if I can't make the new ceremony date - can I attend Summer 2021 events?

    If you are a 2020 graduating student and are unable to attend the bespoke graduation, you will be able to join ceremonies up to July 2021. Once you have received your new invitation to attend a ceremony and you are unable to make the date, please contact the Graduation team on

  • I have already registered for the July 2020 ceremonies, will my order be transferred? / I did not register for the July 2020 ceremonies, can I still attend the rescheduled ceremony?

    Orders from the July 2020 ceremonies will not be transferred and any certificate tubes purchased will be refunded.

    All students graduating in July 2020 will be invited to register for the rescheduled ceremonies and be given the opportunity reserve up to two free guest tickets. This includes students who did not register previously for the July 2020 ceremonies.

    All students will be given the opportunity to reserve 2 free guest tickets in the first instance. Once we have assessed ticket availability, we may open up booking for additional tickets closer to the date of the actual ceremony.

  • What does this mean for international students' visas?

    The UK Government has agreed a range of measures to support students with visas by extending their stay. This is subject to regular review and update. When the dates are confirmed we will be able to review latest government advice and advise you on the best options for you.

    At this stage we cannot predict travel restrictions or visa requirements. If you or your family is unable to attend the postponed ceremony because of ongoing disruption, then you can book for a later ceremony. We will be taking international travel disruption into account when setting the dates of the postponed ceremonies.

    NTU Graduation can provide visa support letters for international students to apply for a visa once you have registered for your ceremony. To request this you just need to email

  • Will I still get my degree classification? How will I hear about this?

    Yes, the University’s approach to degrees means that undergraduate and postgraduate degrees will be classified. Results are released after each examination board meets and you will be able to see your results online on the release date. Your exam boards date may change, which could mean the release date may change, however you will be informed of this directly.

  • Will the no detriment policy mean more students are finishing their degrees later?

    The University’s approach is designed so that courses will be completed at the same time as originally anticipated, although examination boards might be slightly later. If any student needs to retake an assessment, then that will mean finishing later in the summer.

  • How will I receive / collect my actual degree certificate?

    For all final year students, you will receive your Higher Education Achievement Record (HEAR) on Monday 27 July. Get more information about your HEAR.

    Whilst we look at rescheduling your graduation we don’t want to hold on to your certificates when you may need these for employers and further study. We will post certificates out to your permanent home address and you should receive this around the middle of September.

    To make sure your certificate is delivered to the correct address, please check your details and update your permanent home address and mobile phone number by Friday 31 July.

  • Will I get a refund for any payments paid for ceremony?

    Yes – our gowning suppliers and photographers have agreed that if you have already booked and paid through them, you can either carry over your current booking or get a refund.

    If you ordered a Certificate Tube from NTU at the time of booking, we will refund this cost automatically to the same payment method. If you have any concerns regarding this please contact

  • Will NTU reimburse any expenses I have incurred - travel, accommodation etc?

    We have taken the decision early to postpone this event in order that our students incur as little cost as possible. We are unable to refund any expenses that may have been incurred, however we are happy to provide confirmation for travel insurance purposes that the ceremonies have been postponed.
