Black Leadership Programme

Become part of the next generation of leaders.

What is the Black Leadership Programme?

The Black Leadership Programme (BLP) is your opportunity to connect with peers, enhance your skills and stand out as a leader.

Created through a collaboration between Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and Nottingham Trent Students’ Union (NTSU), this programme is crafted specifically for second-year Black heritage students. Black heritage refers to the rich and diverse history, culture, and experiences of people of African and Caribbean descent, including those with mixed heritage.

The BLP offers a transformative experience designed to help you step into your leadership skills with confidence. Throughout the academic year, you can expect to take part in skill-building sessions, interactive workshops and community-focused events. Plus, you’ll have the option to connect with a Black mentor who will support and guide you throughout your university journey and beyond.

We asked some of our participants to describe the BLP in three words:

What will you get out of it?

Successful applicants will benefit from:

  • Safe and supportive spaces where your voice is heard.
  • Inspiring conversations and connections with peers, leaders, and facilitators.
  • A launch event to kickstart your journey where you will meet the cohort.
  • Tailored personal and professional development workshops.
  • One-to-one mentorship with a Black professional working in industry.
  • Exclusive networking opportunities with employers and external leaders.
  • A celebration event and certificate of achievement from a member of the University Executive Team.

Plus, your participation will be recognised on The Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR), which records your achievements during your time at NTU.

How do I apply?

The deadline for current second year students to apply to take part in the Black Leadership Programme has now passed. However, if you are in your second year and would like to hear about any opportunities to engage with the programme then please fill out our online form, and we will reach out to you to invite you to any upcoming events and workshops that have capacity.

Applications for the scheme in 2026/27 will open in September/October 2026.

Not in your second year? No problem. You can still get involved.

While the core programme is for second-year students, first and third-year students at NTU can still participate in various events and opportunities. Simply fill out our online form, and we’ll reach out to invite you to upcoming events and workshops.
