Overview
This research group is affiliated with the Centre for Policy, Citizenship and Society.
The Research Group connects researchers across NTU to the broad interdisciplinary theme of “Cities and Community.” This reflects a primary interest in space and place-based social, cultural, economic, and environmental processes, mostly occurring at the local level and relevant to diverse community interests in both urban and rural spaces. Our research ethos focuses on engaging communities and other local stakeholders in seeking social and environmental justice. This research group fills a gap in current research by emphasising a primary interest in place, underpinned by a sociological curiosity about how power, inequalities, and identities intersect in the production of space.
The Cities and Community Research Group aims to:
- Network researchers with a stake in space, communities, and urban studies.
- Promote collaborative research within and across multiple disciplines.
- Support early-career researchers and facilitate collaboration with senior researchers and research networks inside and outside of NTU.
- Provide information and support regarding relevant funding opportunities.
- Identify and develop impact opportunities with researchers.
- Promote and showcase research that pertains to Cities and Community at NTU.
