Department of Architecture

We’ve been developing the next generation of architects, designers and technologists for over 30 years. Our courses are renowned in industry for their quality and relevance to practice, embodied by our professional accreditations and successful graduates who continue to have lasting positive impacts on the architecture and design industries.

Our successes are a product of our diverse body of students, dedicated academic and professional staff, and team of technical experts. Academic staff are embedded in industry through practice, consultancy and research and specialise in areas including global heritage and management, digital architecture, identity, memory and architecture, deployable structures and urban energy planning.

We’ve got extensive links with partners and our broad range of expertise enable us to develop and support our students at every level, through undergraduate and postgraduate taught and research study routes. Teaching is underpinned by visiting professionals and industry experts who enhance the course content with their insight into current practice and live projects applied to real challenges faced in architecture.

Level 7 Architect Degree Apprenticeship

Designed to be the next step for professionals seeking to achieve Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Parts 2 and 3 qualifications, whilst gaining relevant experience in practice.

Featured facility: Newton and Arkwright

The University has invested a massive £90 million in the regeneration of two Grade II* listed buildings, Newton and Arkwright, at the heart of the City Campus. Arkwright is home to our inspiring studio spaces where our students are encouraged to work collaboratively and experiment with ideas.
