You’ll work in professional-standard studios, rehearsal rooms and live event spaces, developing skills in music performance, songwriting, audio production, event planning and creative direction. Hands-on learning is central to everything you do, helping you grow confidence in both your creative and technical abilities.
You’ll collaborate on gigs, festivals, multimedia events, installations and music projects, gaining first-hand experience of how the industry operates. Guest speakers, artist workshops and live production briefs give you insights into the roles, challenges and opportunities available across the sector.
Work with high-quality audio equipment, digital workstations, mixing consoles, lighting rigs, staging gear and performance tech. Whether you’re producing tracks, managing events or creating immersive experiences, you’ll have access to the tools needed to develop industry-level work.

Our teaching staff will help and support you to develop your career, directing you towards work placement and professional practice opportunities. Some of your modules will be delivered by visiting lecturers who are active in the industry, giving you an up-to-date and relevant insight into the music industry today.
Do It For Real
We pride ourselves on our industry connections, which allow students to ‘Do It For Real’ and experience working in their chosen industries alongside their studies.
Our students get to crew and perform at a host events, including BBC Introducing, Rough Trade, Glastonbury, Splendour Festival and in Metronome.
Industry opportunities
Previous students have gained production credits on work for Sony/RCA, worked with nationally-renowned artists such as Jake Bugg and recorded performances at the Royal Concert Hall. Performance students have performed on many platforms including Splendour Festival, Hockley Hustle, Metronome, Nusic Future Sessions and more.
Your space to create music and events
As a Music and Events offer holder, you’ll be based in Metronome, our music and live events hub, with rehearsal spaces, recording and post production studios, a 400 capacity venue and live events workspaces. You’ll also have access to resources across Nottingham School of Art & Design and the wider university.
Your creative city
Nottingham is a city that is creative at its core, full of energy, independent venues, galleries, gig spaces, cafes and cultural spots. It is a place where students shape the atmosphere and where new ideas fit right in.
