As an NTU Psychology student, you can apply to complete a work placement with SHIELD in your second year of undergraduate study. This placement will form part of your assessed work-like experience between September and March. You may also take part as a Master's level student in a volunteering capacity between April and June.
What roles are available?
You will be allocated to a service delivery or service development role. Within service delivery, you will facilitate a series of psychological coaching sessions as a learning coach, to a young learner aged between 11-14. Within service development, you will apply your psychology skills and knowledge towards improving an aspect of the service's operations.
What training will I receive?
Whether you complete your placement within service delivery or service development, you will complete mandatory training in a range of topics including Active listening and Motivational Interviewing, Safeguarding, and Professional Issues.
When can I apply?
For undergraduate students, applications are open now until Monday 25 May 2026. Follow the guidelines below to apply. Applications have now closed for Master’s students and will open in March 2027.
When do we start?
Mandatory training takes place from Monday 14 September 2026, and coaching sessions start Monday 28 September 2026.
