Wood Workshop

A fully equipped woodworking workshop with modern facilities and full capability for prototyping and production, with expert supervision from technical team.

Bandsaw

We have four bandsaw machines, three SCM and one Wadkin.

These machines are a power saws with long, sharp blades consisting of a continuous band of toothed metal stretched between two or more wheels to cut material. These are used principally in woodworking, metalworking, but these can cut a variety of materials.

The Larger Bandsaw (Saracen SCM) is actually a Band Re - saw and this is used for larger materials and Lumbar.

Overhead router

The overhead router can be used to copy parts using a pattern. This machine is what was used to cut out repetitive parts before the CNC router was invented. We have a variety of different cutters for either straight cuts or different moulds and shapes can be achieved with these.

Lathes

You'll be taught to use this machine for cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling, and deformation of metal based materials. You can use this equipment for metalworking, woodturning, metal spinning and thermal spraying.

Circular saws

The circular saw is a machine for cutting many materials such as wood plastics etc, it is used for cutting and ripping the various materials to length width and thickness sizes.

We have a panel Circular Saw (SCM) and a Dimension Saw (Wadkin) both of these machines can also cut various Mitres up to a maximum of 45 degrees.

Pillar drills

We have four pillar drills that are free-standing machines that use a motor to rotate a bit with variable speed ranges. The drills can be used to cut holes of different diameters into different types of material such as wood or plastics.

Sanding machines

We have a range of sanding machines used by students across all courses, used to prepare surfaces and furniture for a high-quality finish.
