Why did you choose to study your course at NTU?

I choose to study at Nottingham Trent University because of the outstanding reputation of the University across the world. The Food Science and Technology course at NTU allows me to combine my passion for food with my interest in science and the technology that NTU has to offer which makes this course incredibly fascinating. The cutting-edge science and technology that NTU provides made it instantly stand out from other university choices.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

The variety of modules this course offers allows me to learn about multiple different aspects of food science and technologies used in the industry. Some of my favourite modules are Principles of Product Development, Food Chemistry, Experimental Design, and Food Technology. Learning about such a wide variety of topics allows me to feel prepared and confident for any job role I go for within the industry.

How do you find your modules and what have you most enjoyed studying?

The modules in this course certainly do challenge me and my capabilities, but my passion for food science and technology allows me to work hard and continue learning. I appreciate the well-roundedness of the modules on offer and the resources and support you get from the tutors. I also appreciate the way the modules link up with one another as I was able to apply knowledge from modules that I had already done to help me with other aspects of the course.

What do you think about the facilities available on your course and what do you use the most?

NTU has modern labs filled with exciting technology which we are able to make plenty of use of throughout the course. There is a variety of equipment/ technologies we've had the chance to use, from processing instrumentation to gas chromatography to mass spectrometry, research software and library resources.

What do you think about Brackenhurst Campus? What do you get up to in your spare time?

I appreciate the greenery and nature that's on offer at Brackenhurst Campus, it's a nice reminder of my home in India. The campus gives a relaxing feel with plenty of walking routes and an easy environment to meet new people and friends. The walking routes lend themselves to different areas of the campus, ranging from agricultural fields and farms, animal, equine and wildlife areas, and woodland streams or ponds.

I also spend a lot of spare time at the Orangery getting plenty of teas/ coffees to keep me going through my studies.

Have you been involved in any placements, work experience or volunteering as part of your course? If so, what did you do and what did you achieve?

I am currently on my placement year, and I am really enjoying being a placement student as it is helping me to learn, grow and develop my knowledge and skill competencies. I am gaining invaluable knowledge regarding the food industry and the challenges it faces.

I really appreciate what I have learned at NTU during my first and second years of university. The work I am doing at my placement totally aligns with what I have learned during my course at NTU.

Why would you recommend your course to someone considering studying it?

I would recommend this course to a future student as the knowledge you gain is something you will have forever. The BSc Food Science and Technology course at NTU is not limited to one thing and focuses on providing overall knowledge, skills and behavioural development.

The course consists of different modules you can pick and choose depending on your interests. It could be in food safety, quality, research and development, technology, science or supply chain. However, the course is structured in a way that allows you to make decisions and learn a variety of different elements in depth which helps in laying the foundation of your learning.
