More about George

Why did you choose to study your course at NTU?

Compared to other universities, I enjoyed the variety of material and disciplines the course covered, and the rural campus was lovely.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

Getting the opportunity to practice the theory in practice on various trips and the variety of course content and teaching styles.

How did you find your modules and what have you most enjoyed studying?

The modules were varied in both content and assessment which kept things more interesting. Personally, I enjoyed the GIS modules the most as they were very practical, so it was easy to understand ‘real world’ application of the skills.

What did you think about the facilities available on your course and what do you use the most?

The facilities made things comfortable while staying on campus, however having access to a car was very helpful for anything that wasn’t available at the campus. I used the library the most, as it was often quiet and open long hours which is handy for night-owls such as myself.

What did you think about Brackenhurst Campus? What did you get up to in your spare time?

The campus was lovely and scenic. Most of my free time was either attending Society events (Airsoft, Anime, Pokémon, etc.), going on walks around the surrounding countryside and fields, volunteering, or gaming with others at the campus.

What is your top tip for someone considering studying/ living at Brackenhurst Campus?

Make friends with someone that has a car if you don’t drive!

Did you get involved in any placements, work experience or volunteering as part of your course? If so, what did you do and what did you achieve?

I was an Environmental Analyst during my placement year, and I also volunteered with the Forestry Commission and the Southwell Flood Wardens. I received good feedback on my placement year which resulted in them extending my contract, and it was good to support the local community through the Flood Warden programme.

Why would you recommend your course to someone considering studying it?

The variety of course content and the unique campus are the highlights.

What have you been up to since graduating?

I have been working as an environmental consultant primarily within Consents Management of the infrastructure/construction industry, working through various roles including a Noise Consents Specialist and now a Consents Manager on a national infrastructure project.

What are your plans for the future?

I would like to continue to progress to a senior role within consultancy, as well as progressing to get an MSc and contribute to a published paper.

Any additional comments:

Between the Animal Unit, local farms, and the various Brack cats, you are pretty much always around wildlife.
