More about Jessica

Why did you choose to study your course at NTU?

NTU provided a course that included many of the contemporary topics I am interested in, with a holistic approach to studying geography.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

Small classes allowing us to be much more engaged and involved in our teaching and learning compared to a traditional lecture style.

How do you find your modules and what have you most enjoyed studying?

The module choices are broad and all-encompassing which meant I could choose ones which have suited me best, the one I most enjoy being the contemporary topics module and the natural resource management module.

What do you think about the facilities available on your course and what do you use the most?

For my course, the facilities I most use are the high-grade computers provided on campus for GIS and remote sensing aspects of geography. I also use the library and shared working-spaces often for individual and group work, as well as meetings with tutors and advisors.

What do you think about Brackenhurst Campus? What do you get up to in your spare time?

Most of the free time I have I spend in the orangery getting coffee and warm meals, or on a nice day going for a walk around campus as a break from working is a really helpful reset.

What is your top tip for someone considering studying/living at Brackenhurst Campus?

Get a bus pass, it is the most cost-effective way to travel to and around Brackenhurst, have a pair of walking boots! For winter but also for some outdoor lectures, and get to know your surroundings such as Southwell.

Why would you recommend your course to someone considering studying it?

Yes! Geography at NTU is one of the best courses UK-wide, with a mixed approach in first year and the choice to specialise to human / physical geography in second year, and further module options means that you can make educated choices on what you study.

Whether you live in the city or on campus it is such a relaxing environment to work in, leading to the best outcomes.

Field trips with geography have been incredible, they are highly accessible, and great opportunities for learning form first-hand experience. (Especially unforgettable trips to Spain and Tenerife.)

The nature of lectures and lecturers at Brackenhurst mean that you have the opportunity to create working relationships and professional links, giving you access to as much help and guidance as you could need throughout the course and into a professional future.

What are your plans for after the course and how do you feel your course has/ will help you to achieve that goal?

After the course I will embark on worldwide travels to see the world myself, however when I do begin my job search I am grateful that each module in my course has had links to working in industry, although I have not chosen a field I would like to work in yet, I feel as though I could go into most things geography-related with a very strong background and with confidence that I can continue learning to do a job I love.
