More about Kalina

Why did you choose to study your course at NTU?

When applying for university I was more focused on the curriculum at the individual universities
which I found for my specific discipline, that Geography at NTU was a great opportunity. For
example, there are a lot of opportunities to gain experience in the practical field which is essential
for a hands-on learning subject such as Geography.

What do you enjoy most about your course?

One thing I will say that I enjoy most about my course is the variety of teaching methods to help
engage the students and also the feedback the lecturers give in detail.

How do you find your modules and what have you most enjoyed studying?

I enjoy my modules, again there is a lot of variety in what we are taught in terms of GIS and
Spatial Analysis to Practical and Principals in Geography which is based more around the social
side of geography. The module I enjoy most would probably be Sustainability, as it is the discipline
in geography I would like to pursue in my future career.

What do you think about the facilities available on your course and what do you use the most?

There are nice facilities at Brackenhurst Campus as it is very modern. I would say that I use
the library (if I have deadlines to meet) or The Orangery as it is next to the garden and it’s a very
scenic place to have lunch with friends.

What do you think about Brackenhurst Campus?

The campus is very close to Southwell so in between lecture breaks most people go down to
Southwell to explore, maybe go to cafes or pubs.

What is your top tip for someone considering studying/ living at Brackenhurst Campus?

For someone who decides to live at Brackenhurst it would be a good idea to invest in a
nice pair of walking shoes or wellies for rainy days as it can get quite muddy. Also, for food shops the
closest place to go would be Southwell so if you drive it would be a good idea to take your car with
you to university. Otherwise, there is the 26 bus which runs from city centre to Southwell (which is
great for going to nights out in city).

Have you been involved in any placements, work experience or volunteering as part of your
course? If so, what company did you do it for, what was your role/responsibilities and what did
you achieve?

Currently I am in my third year (placement year) at Nottingham High School. In terms of
getting the placement, the Employability Team were very helpful with guidance and the application
process. My main duties are supporting students with developmental needs in various subjects.

If you completed a placement, would you recommend completing one and why?

I have not completed my placement yet but I would definitely recommend completing one as
it helps with professional development.

Why would you recommend your course to someone considering studying it?

I would recommend my course because of the lecturers, they are very patient and
understanding and their teaching styles are quite effective.

What are your plans for after the course and how do you feel your course has/ will help you to
achieve that goal?

As for my future plans I am still not quite sure what industry I would prefer. I generally would like to
go into teaching or the engineering manufacturing role. Furthermore, there are so many different
disciplines I can pursue with my degree which is ideal.

Any additional comments:

In my opinion, Brackenhurst campus is a very nice campus with great facilities.
