Why did you choose to study your course at NTU?
I remember searching through institutions and the courses offered. When I came
across the NTU's Brackenhurst Campus, something about the location and modules covered
in my course captivated my interest in attending NTU. I enjoy being outside, and the wide
range of greenery at Brack drew me in.
What do you enjoy most about your course?
The blend of practical and theoretical learning is perhaps my favourite aspect of my
course. I have previous fieldwork experience from my time as a wildlife conservationist in
India. I was particularly interested in the theoretical aspects, one of which was learning GIS.
How do you find your modules and what have you most enjoyed studying?
If I haven't said it enough in prior remarks, I really enjoy all of the modules offered
at NTU. Behavioural and Evolutionary Ecology, as well as GIS, were perhaps my favourite
modules to study. I'm looking forward to learning more about human-animal conflict in my third year
because it's a topic that's near to my heart.
What do you think about the facilities available on your course and what do you use the most?
The Brack and Boots Library was likely the facility I used the most for last-minute
exam revision or assessments. The IT Lab at Lyth was also really cool, and it made learning
GIS fun.
What do you think about Brackenhurst Campus? What do you get up to in your spare time?
During my first year when I lived at Brackenhurst Campus, I enjoyed taking walks in the
woodland trying to find herps, and playing table tennis with my friends. I also used to visit The
Orangery to revise whenever I felt like having a change of scenery.
What is your top tip for someone considering studying/ living at Brackenhurst Campus?
I would advise everyone to stay at Brackenhurst at least for a year and explore everything
the campus has to offer. NTU does send out a list of stuff you need for your coursework, but apart
from that, a pair of binoculars would be good if you’re into birdwatching. I would also recommend
joining the Conservation Society as it’s really fun and there are new activities every now and then. If you’re living in
the city, the 26 bus takes you straight to campus. And definitely take the time to explore Southwell
as well.
Have you been involved in any placements, work experience or volunteering as part of your
course? If so, what did you do and what did you achieve?
I’m currently looking for a placement, and the NTU Employability Team has helped me a lot
with my CV and placement applications. The course prepares you for industry-level work experience,
which really helps when you go out to work.
Why would you recommend your course to someone considering studying it?
I would recommend my course because it offers a comprehensive curriculum, hands-on
learning experiences, and expert faculty. The state-of-the-art facilities and engaging field trips
enhance practical knowledge. The field work is amazing too; we conduct numerous surveys on
campus and on field trips, such as studying seal behaviour at Donna Nook, exploring wildlife and field
techniques in Spain during the second year, and the extremely interesting South Africa field trip in
the third year. The vibrant campus life and supportive community further enrich the learning
experience, making it an ideal environment for personal and academic growth.
What are your plans for after the course and how do you feel your course has/ will help you to
achieve that goal?
After completing my course, my goal is to work in wildlife management and conflict
mitigation. Down the line, I aim to establish my own wildlife consulting company to help reduce
human-animal conflict in India and work towards Indigenous community development and rights.
