My placement has given me the confidence to search and push for a fulfilling career, and to search different avenues.
Anya's placement with Mesh
Why did you decide to do a placement?
It’s difficult to pinpoint one reason really, but pushing myself out of my comfort zone and becoming more confident was always a big factor. I wanted to experience new challenges and develop my professional abilities.
How did you go about finding your placement, did you have any help from NTU?
I found my placement on LinkedIn. It was a graduate role that I decided to apply to, and because of that I ended up getting the placement.
Where is your placement and what have you found most enjoyable or interesting about it?
Mesh Training Ltd provides Virtual Reality solutions for design education. As the VR Implementation specialist, I showcase how people can integrate Virtual Reality into their workflows through social media posts or networking events. I enjoy going to different events and demonstrating different software and showing what they're valuable for in different curriculums.
Have you been able to use what you've learned on your course during your placement role?
Yes, because we are a company that works within design education, I often design things to showcase on our social media and knowing that product design workflow helps for that.
What do you want to do when you graduate and how do you think your placement will support your career goals?
Although I don’t have a clear picture of what I want to do after graduation, my placement has given me the confidence to search and push for a fulfilling career, and to search different avenues.
What advice would you give to other students considering a placement or internship?
I would say that they’re 100% worth it, even If it isn’t your "dream placement" or you’re unsure, the people skills and confidence you learn are invaluable.
