NTU has a welcoming community and it is great to be part of a diverse community of students. I've really enjoyed getting to know people from all around the world.
More about Mandeep
Mandeep Singh is a Final Year student on BArch (Hons) Architecture.
Why did you choose to study at NTU and what's it like being a student here?
After attending an open day, it was apparent the university would be an excellent choice. NTU highlighted both the academic and social opportunities available to students, as well as excellent facilities, including the Arkwright studios and model-making facilities.
I decided to choose Architecture as I've always had an interest in architectural design. With NTU’s experienced lecturers, content based on real-life scenarios, and RIBA/ARB accreditation, I felt it was the perfect place to prepare me for my future career.
Nottingham is also a great place to live and study. It provides a good balance between being a large city with lots to offer and having a sense of community and comfort in what is ultimately a vibrant and student-friendly city.
What have you enjoyed most about your course so far?
My favourite part of the course is the studio days. Through the use of various tools such as drawing, drafting, and model-making, it lets you express yourself creatively, imaginatively, and visually.
Our final year design studio module was made even more memorable by a field trip we went on to Switzerland where we saw some amazing architecture designed by the likes of Zaha Hadid, Le Corbusier, Frank Gehry, among others.
What's your experience of the student community at NTU?
There is a strong student community among all students in ADBE. With architecture being such a demanding course, you are naturally exposed to a lot of people at once. The university provides some great social spaces to help cope with this, enabling us to enjoy our time at university to the fullest.
NTU has an overall welcoming community and it is great to be part of a diverse community of students. I've really enjoyed getting to know people from all around the world.
Does the “real” NTU match what you’d imagined? How does it compare with your friends’ experience at other universities?
NTU has exceeded my expectation of what university would be like. The years I've spent here have been truly amazing and wonderful. The support you receive from lecturers, tutors, and other teams across the university is excellent because they are always willing to go above and beyond to make your university experience enjoyable.
Having spoken to friends at other universities, I've learned that their experiences vary depending on how much time and effort they put into their university life. Getting involved in university life and joining a society provides you with great opportunities to make friends and create lasting memories.
What do you think of the course staff at NTU?
My experience has been enhanced by the course staff, who have always supported us throughout our studies. The lecturers and tutors are fantastic and very supportive during seminars and tutorials, whilst also being passionate about what they are teaching. They will always try to push you to achieve your fullest potential.
In 10 words or fewer, how would you recommend NTU to students?
