Why did you choose NTU and your course?
Researching on a lot of universities in the UK, came to know NTU was really good at the Art and Design department, focussing more on practical works in the course am in- Filmmaking
What’s your favourite thing about your course?
I personally love how well, the teachers explain the modules clearly, so that we can give our best in the projects we work on.
How have you found the course facilities?
The facilities the course offers are really helpful for us students, being in filmmaking, we students have the facility to book out the required filming equipment's from the uni store, providing with well maintained kits, including cinema quality cameras. Moreover, we can use the university computers for our postproduction workflow, that has a good processing unit, to make our works easier.
Have you worked on any live briefs or competitions?
Being in the course, we have had filmmaking challenges, where we have to form a group, create a story- script, film it and then get is edited within 5-6 hrs of time, the projects have been advertisement challenge in 1st year and trailer making in 2nd year, that really put us under pressure tow work with team spirit, to deliver on time, if at all, anything like this happens in a mainstream media, giving us experience.
Has your course included any guest speakers or industry trips? What have you enjoyed about this?
Yes, we have had a trip to the aesthetics film festival in 2nd year, which gave us insights about how film festivals function. Also we have had guest speakers joining talking about their experience in the industry, and brainstorming ideas with us of our future. For example, we have had the producer from wellington film- Alister Clark, who had come to help us with our progress in the films where we were involved in 2nd year, teaching us, what should be, and what not should be conversed with a producer, if we are in the mainstream.
What do you think of the creative and cultural scene in Nottingham?
With my experience, I would definitely say yes! Very multicultural and kind people. For instance, during weekends I along with my friends from different countries love going to Hindu and Sikh temples, churches, mosques and many more, sharing the stories of our beliefs, watching movies, and many more.
Where would you recommend visiting in Nottingham?
In Nottingham, Wollaton park is a good visit, then the Victoria centre has a lot of shops and eateries. During the September times, the Goose fair is a fun place to visit.
If you could give new students some advice, what would it be?
New students, come prepare for a very exiting time of your life, where u get to experience every emotions, that’ll make u a better person, better thoughts, and better focus towards yourself for you to grow yourself.
What do you think of the course staff?
The staff at NTU are really friendly and kind. Haven’t seen any of them angry or be in a negative shade. They help with our assignments, respond to our doubts via both emails and in person. They have a clarity towards what they want the student to understand. Specifically teachers like Paul smith, Paul Wallis, Adam Whitehouse, Katie Dawson, Lars Koens are really skilled and knowledge in their field of work.
Have you used any of the student support services or NTU’s Employability team?
To be honest, I haven’t used any of the support services, as I have clarified any questions or confusions that arise in my course with my teachers, who have given me the right information.
Why did you want to study in the UK?
UK has been one of the top countries that has good university system, praised by a lot of articles, and reviews from alumni. I wanted to get out of my comfort zone to explore a new country and explore the different education system and ideology in filmmaking, made me chose UK. And my time has been really great!
How is NTU for international students?
International students would have a great time at NTU, as the staff and the members are very understanding. Fitting to a new place would be a bit stressful, but the student union and support services sort it out easily for you, and booking rooms at the NTU- UPP halls would be better, to get flatmates- who might share the same student mentality of yours, helping you all to set to the new place quickly. Moreover, you could connect with people from both your country and as well as other countries through the global lounge. And overall, NTU is really good for international students.
