More about Alexandra Jasmine

Why did you choose NTU and your course?

I’ve always wanted to go to university in the UK, however, my interests in film were very niche, and not a lot of university offers a good Filmmaking course that has both technical and theoretical practice. NTU offered exactly what I wanted in their filmmaking course!

What’s your favourite thing about your course?

The course offers a huge range of facilities and equipment to help hone my skills. I always love trying out new tech every year and getting a glimpse of being in the industry would look like.

How have you found the course facilities?

Incredible! Not only are the staff helpful and kind, but the equipment are well taken care of and they make sure the students know how to handle it as well. I get to learn to use drones, the Virtual Production studio, film industry cameras such as REDs, Blackmagics, and Sonys

Have you worked on any live briefs or competitions?

I have submitted both of my second-year film projects to various film festivals, and looking forward to submitting my third-year graduate film to festivals as well.

Has your course included any guest speakers or industry trips?

I enjoy a lot of the guest speakers who are invited to our lectures. They give a clear idea and understanding of what the industry looks like and how to make our way into it. I have gained so many insights and advice to get my foot in the industry and learn to be patient and passionate in the art of filmmaking.

We went to Aesthetica Film Festival 2024 in York, and it was an amazing opportunity to see other filmmakers’ projects showcased at the festival. It gave me inspiration to make my own films as well.

What do you think of the creative and cultural scene in Nottingham?

Yes! There are plenty of art events, showcases, galleries, and theatres that push young artists to collaborate and create. Hockley is famous for being the centre of art and fashion in Nottingham, and there are plenty of unique people around to talk to and unique corners to take inspirational sketches from.

Where would you recommend visiting in Nottingham?

As someone who enjoys film, Broadway is a great place for filmmakers/film enthusiasts.

If you could give new students some advice, what would it be?

Nottingham feels scary and big at first, but take some time to explore and you’ll find yourself exploring the whole of the city centre! It’s quite compact but filled with so many good restaurants, galleries, vintage shops, and so much more, you will be surprised by the places you will find.

What do you think of the course staff?

They are so welcoming, warm, and supportive of their students!

Have you used any of the student support services or NTU’s Employability team?

Everything is available online, so it’s easy to access and reach them. However, there aren’t a lot of film-related job opportunities there.

Why did you want to study in the UK?

It offers a lot more opportunities in films compared to where I am from. There are always film festivals, film awards, and it’s a great place to start networking.

How is NTU for international students?

There are plenty of international students around and NTU are very welcoming to international students. There are a lot of societies for international students that made me feel welcome.
