More about An

Can you tell us about your Masters project?
“My Masters project is about the imaginary beauty portrayed in fashion imagery, and how it affects female consumers’ self-esteem. With an initial interest in sustainability and ethical fashion, I intend to explore the ethical values of fashion visuals, and marketing strategies in line with that.”

What do you enjoy most about your course at NTU?
“The best experience I’ve had on this course so far is meeting my beloved international friends from around the world, who share the same interest and passion with me for fashion. Apart from the informative lectures, seminars and workshops, I’ve really valued the stories and knowledge shared by my classmates. I’ve learnt about culture and fashion in their countries, and have been able to maintain a strong relationship with them afterwards.”

What made you choose to study at NTU?
“The main reason I chose NTU was because the University had a specific MA Fashion Marketing course that catered to my needs and career development. I also chose NTU because of the affordable tuition fees.”

How do you find the course staff?
“The lecturers are helpful in demonstrating what is expected of us, and make sure we’re able to follow the pace of the course.”

What do you think about the facilities available to you?
“The facilities at NTU has made my postgraduate student life much easier and more comfortable. What I most appreciate is the 24/7 Boots library, where I have spent countless days in. I also like the Global Lounge – it’s a really nice place to just sit have a free coffee, and make new friends from all over the world.”

As an international student, what do you like about studying and living in Nottingham?
“Nottingham is an extremely convenient and cultural city to live in. Since I live quite near the city centre, I get to enjoy various events taking place all year round. I also enjoy thrift shopping and digging for vintage pieces in the many second-hand stores in Nottingham.”

Have you been on any study/class trips?
“I went on a European study trip with my course, where we got to see the fashion scenes of Paris and Antwerp. It was a memorable experience filled with interesting fashion walking tours. We were able to immerse ourselves in the local fashion culture, and we also had the chance to visit international tradeshow Première Vision Paris. I personally favoured Antwerp’s fashion scene, with its many small yet cool local boutiques that are hard to find elsewhere.”

Why would you recommend your course to someone thinking of studying MA Fashion Marketing?
“I think the MA Fashion Marketing course serves as a good stepping stone for anyone who wants to explore the fashion industry without having any foundation knowledge, and similarly for fashion design students who want to develop their business skills. Since this course offer the core concepts of the fashion industry, it allow us to further explore them at our own pace.”

How do you think the course, and having a postgraduate qualification, will help you to progress your career?
“The course really helps me reinforce and strengthen my core knowledge of marketing and fashion management.”

How has the NTU international scholarship helped you?
“After receiving the half-fee scholarship, it motivated me to pursue this path both financially and mentally. Not only did it help me better prepare for a life abroad, it was also a major confidence booster. Through the University’s scholarship scheme, I have attended several gatherings and networking events. It is a great opportunity to meet talented people from all other backgrounds and listen to their stories.”
