More about Aritrika Roy
Why did you choose NTU and your course?
I chose NTU because of its strong reputation for employability and its focus on connecting fashion education with the wider industry.
What’s your favourite thing about your course?
The course combines strategic thinking with real-world fashion industry challenges, with an emphasis on practicality rather than just textbook knowledge.
How have you found the course facilities?
The facilities at NTU have been really supportive of both independent study and collaborative work. The library and online resources have been particularly useful for research and assignments.
Have you worked on any live briefs or competitions?
I have had the opportunity to work on several live projects for established local and global brands, including Paul Smith and Chinese luxury brand ERDOS.
Has your course included any guest speakers or industry trips?
The course has included opportunities to hear from and engage with industry professionals from brands including H&M, NEXT, ERDOS and many more. The industry trip to the V&A in London was an enriching experience and a highlight of my time at NTU.
When I’m not studying…
What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?
Lively, student-friendly and my second home
What do you think of the creative and cultural scene in Nottingham?
Nottingham has a vibrant creative and cultural scene, with a great mix of independent businesses, galleries, exhibitions and events. There are plenty of opportunities to find inspiration beyond the classroom.
Where would you recommend visiting in Nottingham?
While the city centre and Hockley are known for great cafes, Wollaton Hall and the Castle are must-visits to experience the beauty and culture of Nottingham. My favourite spot in Nottingham is definitely the Arboretum.
If you could give new students some advice, what would it be?
Your time at university goes by much faster than you expect, so put yourself out there, meet people, make memories and explore the city. NTU gives you enough flexibility to enjoy university life alongside focusing on your academics.
What do you think of the course staff?
The course staff are exceptionally approachable and supportive. While they encourage us to think and work independently, they have gone above and beyond to help whenever I have felt stuck.
Have you used any of the student support services or NTU’s Employabiliy team?
I have approached NTU’s Employability team several times for help with my CV and applications. They are not only patient but also up to date with industry expectations, which has been really helpful.
About the future...
What’s next for you after NTU?
After NTU, I hope to build a career in fashion brand management and strategy, combining my creative background with the strategic and commercial knowledge I’ve developed during my MA.
Has the employability team helped you plan for life beyond NTU?
The employability team has helped me become more familiar with the UK job market and think more strategically about the types of roles and organisations I want to pursue after graduation.
For international students…
Why did you want to study in the UK?
The UK has a strong global fashion industry and a rich creative and cultural landscape. I wanted to gain an international perspective on fashion while being exposed to the industry firsthand.
How is NTU for international students?
NTU has a diverse and welcoming student community. Studying alongside students from different countries has been one of the most valuable parts of my experience and has given me a genuinely international perspective on the fashion industry.
