More about Hannah
What made you choose to study at NTU?
"I heard that the School of Art & Design at NTU was one of the best and I was impressed by the facilities which looked great."
What do you enjoy most about our Textile Design course?
"I liked that in Year One we got the opportunity to try each specialism (knit, weave, embroidery and print) before deciding which one to take. I have also enjoyed having the opportunity to take part in live briefs for real companies."
Can you tell us about one of the live briefs you have really enjoyed?
"In Year Two I completed a live brief for Romo, an interior furnishings company based in Nottingham. In teams, we had to follow a brief which included looking at trends and the companies background. We then had to present our collection to the head designers."
How have you found the course staff?
"The lecturers and tutors are extremely dedicated to the students and you can tell they only want the best for you. The technical staff are beyond amazing and are always there for you. Especially our weave technician Erica, she always has time for you and knows everything you ask her!"
Why would you recommend Textile Design at NTU?
"I would recommend NTU to anyone wanting to enjoy themselves at university. As for the Textile Design course here, it is like no other. You get the design experience with the amazing facilities plus the knowledge from tutors to prepare you for what comes after."
Finally, congratulations on your new job as merchandising assistant at Belfield Furnishings, can you tell us a little bit about your role?
"I work in the soft furnishings division, within a dedicated Marks and Spencer's team. Some of my responsibilities involve managing the critical path for all new M&S products, ordering and inspecting samples and assisting technologist on product quality and test reports.
"Not only do we learn about designing but we are also taught about the technicalities and responsibilities that come with it. We have strong paper work to back up our decisions and processes that show a understanding of what we are doing."
