I was excited to move into halls and meet my flatmates. We have all ended up becoming great friends and I am living with some of them next year.

More about Jamie-Lee

Jamie-Lee tells us about the highlights of her first year on our BA (Hons) Photography course. She talks about what she enjoys about her course and how she found moving to Nottingham.

What made you choose to study at NTU?
"After visiting various other universities, I came to NTU's open day and immediately felt like this was the right place for me. Everything in the city felt close together and accessible, unlike other campuses I had visited which had felt overwhelming. The course had the right mix of theory and practical, and potential options to study abroad made my decision to study at NTU easy to make."

How did you find Welcome Week and moving into halls?
"Welcome Week was a great way to meet new people on my course and in my accommodation. The Course Leader introduced us to interesting areas around Nottingham and the fresher's reps made sure we made the most of the night life.

"I was excited to move into halls and meet my flatmates. We have all ended up becoming great friends and I am living with some of them next year. I have become much more independent however I still miss home-cooked meals!"

What do you enjoy most about your course?
"I really enjoy our VP seminars where we present work we have created during the week and then feedback is given from the other students. It helps that our seminar group has bonded so well, so feedback is honest and helpful."

Could you tell us about a guest lecturer that you've enjoyed?
"We recently had Chris Floyd speak to us about the beginning of his career through to his present day work. He gave excellent advice surrounding lighting and how to adopt a persona in order to get the most out of your models."

How do you find the facilities?
"All three photography studios that we have are excellent with industry standard lighting and have a variety of backdrops.

"The shop has everything I need for my course, this includes the store where I can book out and borrow equipment that I would not otherwise be able to afford."

What has been your highlight so far?
"I have met amazing people and made best friends which has made my time at NTU the best it could be so far."

What do you like about studying and living in Nottingham?
"Nottingham feels much smaller than any other city I have visited which really helps to quickly become familiar with the city centre. This makes the transition from home to university much easier and less scary."

Why would you recommend your course and NTU?
"NTU is a fun and exciting university in a diverse and interesting city. The course is much more than just taking pictures. We have covered important topics such as feminism and the staff really ensure we understand the history of photography and its pioneers."

Where do you hope to be in five years' time?
"I am really interested in becoming a photo editor as I enjoy working with Photoshop and other software."
