More about Juan (Winnie)

Winnie also did a one-month internship at John Smedley in Derbyshire, following a successful live project with them.

What made you choose to study MA Fashion Marketing at NTU?
"Firstly, the School of Art & Design at NTU has a really good reputation in the UK, especially in the fashion field. Secondly, Nottingham is a nice city to study and live in. It’s in a good location and the cost of living is affordable. Last but not least, the application process is clear and easy. The Nottingham Trent International College (NTIC) foundation course is also very useful for international students."

Can you tell us about your project – what were your initial ideas and how have you developed it throughout the course?
"My project is about the in-store experience of a mid-end high street brand. It focuses mainly on how the physical store expresses brand value to customers especially in an online-dominated environment."

As an international student, what do you like about studying and living in Nottingham?
"The City Campus is beautiful, convenient and well organised. Nottingham is very conveniently located as it’s in the centre of England, and the transport system is very advanced. Life in Nottingham is nice as well, there are many supermarkets and restaurants which are very good for international students. The cost of living is affordable compared to big cities such as Manchester, Birmingham and London."

Why would you recommend your MA Fashion Marketing course to someone thinking of studying it?
"The University has a very good reputation, good course structure, reasonable tuition fees, helpful staff, and more importantly, very good support for employability."

How do you think the course, and having a postgraduate qualification, will help you to progress your career?
"At a postgraduate level, students can gain practical skills needed in the industry, from a creative project during the first semester, to a live project in our second semester, as well as our whole research project. Students are able to apply their course learnings into their work environment, and feel comfortable in expressing their own experiences and ideas. Also, working on a team project allows students to develop good communication and teamwork skills, as well as a mature attitude."

How was your experience of working at John Smedley?
“We were able to carry out the marketing plan our team had made for them. I’m so glad I was given the opportunity to gain real industry experience in the UK and learn more about the latest marketing trends. I gained a great deal of first-hand experience through my internship with John Smedley.”
