More about Katy

Katy is a Year One student on our BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion course. Here she tells us about the highlights of the course so far, and her experience of student life at NTU.

What made you choose to study at NTU?
"I chose NTU because the course just shone through against all the other courses that I was looking at at the time. But the main decider was on the open day when I first stepped onto campus – it felt right; the staff were enthusiastic, the students happy. It was just something that I felt I really wanted to be part of."

What do you enjoy most about the course?
"I really like the way that we are introduced to a whole spectrum of elements of the fashion industry with tutors that have first-hand experiences within the sector that they are teaching. It is great because you can just tell the quality of learning that we are getting is so high.

"In January we did a research trip to New York, which was incredible! Exploring Brooklyn has to have been the highlight for me, with all of the cute little boutiques and cafés."

How do you find the course staff?
"All of the staff are wonderfully enthused about the course and its contents. They are also approachable and helpful when you have any questions for them, which is something that is really important in the first year when you are still finding your feet."

How do you find the course facilities?
"The studios and workshops are well-lit open spaces, which is great because it encourages discussion and is a really nice learning environment. The fact that there are Macs and PCs around most of the buildings is great if you ever need to just add that one little detail to your work at the last minute."

How do you get involved in student life outside of your course?
"I am a member of the Burlesque society, which is so much fun – we meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays for an hour to rehearse dances with a great group of girls. In December we took part in the charity burlesque show at Forum (a club in Nottingham), which was such an incredible and fulfilling experience."

What do you like most about studying and living in Nottingham?
"Nottingham is honestly one of the best cities. It is the perfect mix between the arty and cool and the busy and bustling. You can always find something cool to do – I can promise it is never dull!"

Why would you recommend your course?
"NTU is an amazing university and the course is the perfect mix between academic and creative classes. I can promise that you will graduate with the best experiences and the best mentality for industry."
