I would recommend the course because of how varied it is, yet at the same time is very detailed in all aspects of what you may choose to specialise in.

More about Laura

What made you choose to study at NTU?
"I chose to study at NTU as I had heard good things about the textile course. Additionally, I found the staff to be friendly when I came for my interview as well as seeing the School of Art & Design had a good textile department.

What did you enjoy most about your course?
"The thing I enjoyed most within the course was the opportunities we had to explore different area, print, embroidery and knit."

Where are you currently working since graduating from NTU?
"Since my graduation in 2011, I have been working at David Howard – a men’s shirt supplier. I am now a senior designer within their design team."

How did BA (Hons) Textile Design help you to secure your role at David Howard?
"The course helped me to produce good samples within weave – the samples successfully showed my technical ability, use of colour and understanding of weave."

What was the most valuable thing you learnt from your course?
"One of the most valuable things I learnt through my course was how to work to project briefs. The ability to do this has now put me in good stead for when I am working on our customer briefs at David Howard."

What do you enjoy most about your role as a senior designer?
"I enjoy the opportunity to explore all areas of weave and fabrics, and using new development to end up with commercial fabrics to sell to our customers."

How did you find the textile design facilities available to you?
"I found that the workshops were all very good and allow a varied approach to textile design. The studios and weave rooms are well setup to help you produce your work, and, the help from tutors and technical staff is great.

"I loved the Bonington Art Shop, and found that the Bonington building has everything you need, meaning you could stay there for the whole day when working to close deadlines.

"The fact that the whole campus is close together is great as it’s very accessible to the city centre, the library is close and full of useful areas – you have everything you need."

Why would you recommend your course?
"I would recommend studying BA (Hons) Textile Design because of how varied it is, yet at the same time is very detailed in all aspects of what you may choose to specialise in. Overall, Nottingham is a great cultural city to live in, the people are great and I felt a real sense of community during my time at NTU."
