More about Patricia
What made you choose to study at NTU?
"I heard great things about NTU and its Art and Design courses. I discovered that the Photography course in particular was very prestigious."
What do you enjoy most about Photography?
"I didn't realise just how much theory was included in the course and a part of me enjoys this more than actually making my photographs. This is because it enables me to really think about what I want to achieve when I do make them, instead of taking pretty photos which are just aesthetically pleasing."
Has the course included any speakers from industry?
"Yes it has. Giles Duley came to speak to us and he was quite honestly one of the most inspiring people I have listened to. His whole life is incredible from being a high fashion photographer to a conflict photographer, to then also becoming a victim of war himself as a third-limb amputee."
What do you think about the course staff?
"It's great because there are so many staff within the photography department who are experienced in the industry. Whatever type of practice you're interested in, there will always be someone who can help you and give you an insight into that particular practice."
What do you like about studying and living in Nottingham?
"Being in Year Two I'm more aware of my surroundings now which means I have been able to enjoy them properly. Everything is so central, you're only a 20-minute walk from everything."
Why would you recommend Photography to someone looking to study in that area?
"It's a great course if you know you have a place in photography but are not sure exactly what your practice is. For me, NTU has been the place to experiment and stretch myself."
