More about Yuan

What made you choose to study at NTU?
“Firstly, NTU is ranked in the top 5 in the UK for fashion-related courses. Secondly, when I applied to NTU, my tutor asked me to write an industry report, and gave me a Skype interview to examine my breadth of knowledge in fashion. I knew then that NTU had high standards for selecting their students.”

Can you tell us about your project?
“My project is about providing visual communication strategies for multi-brand luxury websites in China. It combines several subjects, such as luxury consumer behaviour, fashion retailing, fashion marketing, digital communication strategies and so on.

“From the proposal to conducting the research, I got a lot of help from my tutor; we had tutorials at least once a week to make sure that my project was meaningful for the luxury fashion industry in China and reached Masters level.”

What do you enjoy most about your course at NTU?
“The relaxing and friendly relationship between students and faculties. Every teacher respects their students, and does their best to provide professional academic support.”

How do you find the course staff?
“The lecturers are definitely qualified, and they inform students of their previous working experience in the fashion industry at the beginning of each course. Students were allocated into different groups according to the types of projects and areas of specialism of their tutors.”

As an international student, what do you like about studying and living in Nottingham?
“International students get a lot of help and support from the NTU international office. A Chinese staff member Scarlett explained everything to us, from visa applications to doctor appointments. Chinese parties were held regularly, as well as free coffee and meals in the Global Lounge. I made many friends there, and we really had a lot of fun.”

Why would you recommend MA Luxury Fashion Brand Management to someone thinking of studying it?
“The education system at NTU is very different to China; all my teachers at NTU have a wealth of experience in the fashion industry. For example, my tutor Alex worked for Balenciaga and Dolce & Gabbana. Teachers gave lectures to us about starting their own fashion businesses; all of them own their fashion brands. Basically, what they taught us was very practical.”

How do you think the course, and having a postgraduate qualification, will help you to progress your career?
“The course provides me with a deeper understand of the fashion world. The UK is a country very famous for fashion; I can apply what I learned here to the Chinese market, as a well-educated professional in fashion.”
