More about Zheng Jie
Zheng Jie Yun is from Guangdong, in China. She studied Fashion Design in Shanghai before coming to NTU. A highlight of her year here was working with a top designer in London during London Fashion Week 2008.
How did you hear about Nottingham Trent University?
"I heard about NTU from another Chinese student, who recommended it to me. I also had a look at the rankings for fashion schools in the UK and NTU came up high."
Did you do a placement on your course?
"Yes, at Meadham Kirchhoff in London. With help from the School of Art & Design, I applied on the London Fashion Week website. During the placement, I did the costing for the whole collection for London Fashion Week. This was very good experience for me. I've learned more about the fashion industry in one year than I did in the whole of four years studying it in China!"
Do you think that what you have learned here will help you in your future career?
"I believe that what I have learned will help my career a lot. Fashion, as a creative industry, is well developed in the UK, while in China it is still in the early stages. This indicates that people who have studied or worked abroad in the creative industries would be popular in China, particularly with skills such as critical thinking that have been influenced by western culture."
