More about Henna

What were the key features that attracted you to your course?

“I really liked how it was all coursework. As someone who doesn’t particularly like exams, the opportunity to do coursework was important. It includes a variety, such as creative writing portfolios, academic essays, critical commentary and blog posts among other things. The location is great; it is truly a student city.”

What did you enjoy most about your course?

"Compared to other universities, the modules themselves are diverse. You have the opportunity to cover so much content in such a short while. Cannonical literature (such as Chaucer, Shakespeare and Homer) are not the only options. Modern, contemporary and gothic literature are only some of the topics you can study. There is also a great focus on literature outside the Canon. If you’re not as confident with academic writing, there are also modules that focus on screenwriting, creative portfolios and more! There is something for everyone."

What would you describe as the real strengths of your course?

“The Campus is great! Clifton Campus has a large library, two Coffee places as well as plenty of space to socialise and study. Additionally, the staff are all helpful and want you to succeed. The environment is positive; you can’t really make any mistakes. It’s all an opportunity to learn.”

What topics/projects have you really felt engaged with?

“I really liked the Publishing in Practice module as it imitated a workplace. We were put into a team (e.g. Human Resources, Marketing, Conference Team) and we created a Journal. This not only developed academic writing skills, but it also linked to employment and the ‘outside world’. The Voices and Visions module was also interesting: we wrote an original screenplay or stage play with the guidance of the Module leader.”

What has been your greatest achievement as a Nottingham Trent University student?

“The opportunity to write an English Lit dissertation has been eye-opening. Not only am I able to focus on a specific topic that interests me, but it also has really helped me to develop research skills that I can take with me through my academic career.”

In a nutshell, why would you recommend your course / NTU to prospective students?

“Everything at NTU feels right. The staff are so friendly, the campus is great and the course itself is so interesting. You won’t regret it; it will easily be one of the best choices you will make.”
