More about Laura

What made you choose to study at NTU?

"I love that the Clifton Campus is so green! Initially, I was attracted to the Uni because it was a decent distance from home – not too far and not too close. Then, when I went for the open day, I realised that I could actually see myself on the campus and it felt like it was a good fit."

What were the key features that attracted you to your course?

"The theory elements of both subjects– they sounded particularly interesting and have proven to be just that."

What do you enjoy most about your course?

"Being able to go into real discussions in seminars – it's an off day for me if I don't speak up in group debates. Also, both subjects are interesting and the lecturers make an effort to show us good material."

Has the course included any study trips or guest speakers – if so can you talk about ones you found the most useful?

"We went to Broadway cinema for our British Cinema module to see Darkest Hour and listened to the woman in charge of scheduling talk about the financing element of cinema and what it takes to actually preview the films."

What do you think about the course staff – include lecturers, tutors, administrators and technical staff within this. How do they support your learning and University experience?

"I like my lecturers – they make an effort to make topics interesting and I get on with a number of them because they appreciate the fact that I contribute so much in seminars."

What do you like about studying and living in Nottingham?

"The architecture is my favourite part of the city. The nightlife is great and there is so much to do in the city."

Why would you recommend your course / NTU to someone looking to study in that area?

"It's an interesting degree that has possibilities to take you further when entering into the world of careers. The lecturers are also highly intellectual and have some great insider knowledge."

Have you completed any work placements and if so can you tell me a little bit about them – where you went and what you did?

"I am in the last stages of working for an event management company who are hosting the Nottingham Media Festival and have been part of the preparations and actual festival so far."

How will your course and/or placement enhance your employability for your chosen career? What skills have you gained?

"I feel that my communication skills have greatly improved, as well as my organisation skills. The element of both my course and my placement that will help in the future is being able to network – this is crucial in the film industry."

What has been your greatest achievement at NTU so far?

"Performing a monologue at the NTU Drama society's winter showcase and breaking through confidence barriers in order to participate effectively in lectures and seminars."

What are your plans for the future?

"Writer, Actress, Director, Producer (film, television and theatre). I have big ambitions."

Choosing just one subject to study at university can be a challenge! If you’re stuck weighing up different subjects, a joint honours course could be the ideal solution!
