More about Christine

Why did you decide to do postgraduate study?

“I decided to do postgraduate study during my last year of undergraduate degree as I wanted to enrich my knowledge, by not only learning the theory, but also how it can be applied to real business problem. An NBS Masters degree is an investment for the future, as it will not only help me to stand out against other candidates in job application, but also experience new environment, and make many professional relationships.”

What made you choose NBS?

“Nottingham Business School is one of the only modern universities in UK that has EQUIS and AACSB accreditation and outstanding reputation across the world. After completing all the courses, we will also be awarded CMI qualification, which is great. Moreover, there are several options for final project that are attractive and varied.”

What do you enjoy most about your course at NBS?

“I enjoy the teaching style. This involves having a lecture which is then followed by a workshop to generate a deeper understanding.  The workshops involve group discussions, games, calculation and practice. This helps the students to gain a better understanding. The course has been intense and fast-paced. The concept of expressing opinions and ideas in the class was new for me, as I used to only listen to lectures during my earlier education and had to deal with many new foreign terms. But this was good for me and has helped me learn how to handle and be comfortable with pressure. With the help of the tutors and lots of practices, now I am able to voice out my opinion and get comfortable learning finance.”

What do you think about the course staff? How do they support your learning and University experience?

“The lecturers are of different nationalities and have had different industry experiences. This helps me to learn different points of view regarding the topic. I am also provided with an academic mentor that helped to set my personal objectives during my study and supports and guides me through achieving them. One of my favourite things about NBS is the employability team. They are really helpful when it comes to checking CVs, practicing interviews, and giving feedback. I have a nice, warm feeling knowing the whole institution is here to support me.”

What do you think about the facilities available to you?

“Personally, I love the 24hr library! Especially the silent study room. It helps a lot because I am not the type of person that can concentrate in my own room and my brain works better at night, so I usually stay until late in the library to do my assignments. The IT facilities are amazing, there is no need to panic if you forget to bring your laptop, because you can always borrow one. Also, I love that NBS and NTU support mental health by providing specialists that can help you with both your life and education.”

Why would you recommend your course / NBS to someone looking to study in that area?

“I would definitely recommend NBS because I feel the benefit of advancing my personal and professional skills here. NBS provides many opportunities that every student can join, such as Thinkubator Challenge, Personal Development Week, networking events and many more. The course content is also up to date with news, especially for finance. It covers the current economic climate and the tutor then discusses its impact and how to manage those situations. This will be a great competitive advantage when securing a job in the future. In fact, I’ve already recommended NBS to my friends who are considering postgraduate study.”

What has been your greatest achievement at NBS so far?

“My greatest achievement so far is to be invited to attend and receive a scholarship award. My second achievement is to be selected as one of five students to go to Italy for Global Responsibility Week exchange programme.”

Have you taken up any opportunities offered by NBS? How has this contributed to your university experience?

“I joined some workshops that helped me with my personal skills and building a success mindset during Personal Development Week. I would say every opportunity offered by NBS is worth signing up for. The events help me to grow academically, boosts my professional prospects and have tremendous personal impact on my life.”
