More about Muath

What made you decide to do a Master’s degree?
The reasons behind my studying MSc Finance and Investment Banking were to be able to pursue a more creative career path. Previously, I studied a bachelor degree in Finance and Banking Science and then worked in a finance role as a Bank Teller. I came to the realisation that completing my higher studies will develop my knowledge base and skill set to find the career that I deserve.

This dream came true when I was offered a scholarship from Mu'tah University in Jordan to study a Masters and PhD at Nottingham Trent University.

When picking a University to study a Masters what do you consider it important to have?
As it is an investment in my future, the quality of education, rank and accreditation of the university were the most important things that I considered when I picked Nottingham Trent University.

Why did you choose Nottingham Business School?
I have a business-oriented mind, which makes me always analyse how businesses work: their pricing techniques, their strategies and the way they turn a profit in the financial sector. I believe that my passion is a key factor for my success, but I am confident that I will only be able to prosper in this career if I complete a postgraduate degree in this field. I believe that studying the MSc Finance and Investment Banking at NBS provided me insight on how the banking system uses resources to thrive in a competitive market.

What do you feel is the best aspect about studying at Nottingham Business School?
Definitely its international recognition and research excellence. I find the modules unique and encompassing every aspect of investment banking that I will need to succeed. Focussing on financial analysis, as well as corporate finance, I believe they will help develop my knowledge, which I will be using to teach others in the future.

In addition to this, the school’s international accreditation (AACSB and EQUIS)will enable me to maximize my employability chances once I graduate.

Can you explain a little about your course? Is it what you expected? What do you enjoy? What do you dislike?
The modules I studied were more than what I thought in terms of the quality and their relation with the real economy. The facilities, mixed learning methods, diverse assessments and tutor’s feedback were of a high standard and helpful.

What key skills have you developed during your studies?
I improved my leadership, presentation, public speaking, time management, team working and data collection skills. I also developed professional mind-set and positive attitude. I will continue improving them during my studies at Nottingham Business School.

In Semester Three, what option did you pick to do as your Major Project and why?
Studying for my Masters and subsequently a PhD will enable me to gain the necessary theoretical and practical skills I could not succeed in the finance world without.

This study will enable me to gain knowledge in such a unique and diverse research area, which will in turn, boost my employability and competitive advantage in the business world and satisfy my passion to be a lecturer upon completing my studies.

To this end, I chose to complete my MSc degree by doing a Business Research Project which will lead me to my PhD which embodies my educational aspirations and professional values.

Did you get involved with any other activities in Nottingham Business School?
I believe that the events that were organised by NTU along with the modules of my course enhanced and improved my knowledge and skills. Therefore, I tried to get involved in these kind of activities.

In terms of CPD events, I attended events related to Business Leader Lectures such as the Equipped2Lead event.

How does Nottingham Business School provide you with support, advice and guidance?
The education system at Nottingham Business School is designed to fit students’ needs and to enhance their knowledge related to their field of studies. The facilities, programmes, events, such as the welcome week events, library opening hours, tutor’s feedback, student support centre etc. provide the support that students need and put them in the right direction during their academic journey.

What do you think about Nottingham as a city for students?
Nottingham is one of the most suitable cities in the UK for students. The diverse population makes life in the city a great opportunity for learning and understanding more about different cultures and building good friendships with people from many countries. The city has many beautiful historical places for visiting, numerous international restaurants, which can make people feel like they are in their home countries.

How had the Master’s degree differed from your undergraduate experience?
The experience that I gained from my Masters degree was deeper than what I gained during my Bachelors degree. In addition, it increased and enhanced my understanding of my field through the diverse module topics, which were up to date and reflect current trends in the commercial world.

What advice would you give to students considering studying at Nottingham Business School?
Through my experience as a Masters student, I would like to recommend NBS as one of the best schools for business studies.

Being a part of NBS will contribute to your future successes and add a strong and valuable qualification on your CV.
