More about Amaewhule
Why did you choose NTU and Nottingham Law School?
I chose NTU because the LLM LPC offered a practical and structured route into professional legal training.
The course content was clearly designed to develop applied skills rather than purely academic knowledge.
This aligned with my interest in using law within business and regulatory environments.
Why did you choose postgraduate study at NTU?
I wanted postgraduate training that would strengthen my legal reasoning while also improving how I approach responsibility, risk, and professional conduct.
The LLM LPC provided a framework for thinking and working at a professional level. It also helped me understand how legal knowledge translates into real decision‑making.
What inspired you to study law?
I was interested in how rules and regulations shape organisations, behaviour, and outcomes.
Law offered a way to understand structure, accountability, and problem‑solving across different industries.
That ability to apply legal thinking beyond traditional practice strongly appealed to me.
What did you enjoy about your course?
I enjoyed the practical nature of the LPC and the emphasis on professional thinking. The course encouraged discipline, organisation, and accountability in how work is approached.
It helped me develop confidence in analysing problems and presenting clear, structured solutions.
What marks out of 10 would you give for course facilities and why?
I would give the facilities an 8/10. The library resources and study spaces were reliable and well‑suited to the demands of professional legal training.
From the library, I had the opportunity to loan desktops for lectures for free. Having access to quiet, well‑equipped spaces made independent study and revision more effective.
Would you recommend NTU and your course to someone looking to study law? If so, why?
Yes, I would recommend it. The LLM LPC provides strong transferable skills that are useful both within and outside traditional legal roles.
It prepares students to think professionally, manage responsibility, and approach complex situations with clarity.
How has your career developed since leaving NTU?
Since leaving NTU, I have continued my involvement with Chizjay Oil & Gas Limited, where I first worked as a sales manager, supervising pump attendants, recording daily sales, checking stock levels, and supporting basic safety and organisational processes.
After completing the LLM LPC, my responsibilities shifted towards compliance and risk awareness, including reviewing documentation, thinking through regulatory requirements, and helping introduce clearer processes and checklists.
This progression allowed me to move from hands-on operational work into a more structured, oversight-focused role, where I now contribute at a strategic level rather than on daily operations.
How have your studies contributed to your career?
The LLM LPC helped me understand how to break down rules and apply them in practical situations. I now approach work by asking what regulations apply, what risks exist, and how those risks can be reduced through better organisation and documentation.
For example, I have applied this thinking when reviewing operational procedures, tracking regulatory requirements, and suggesting staff checklists and record-keeping systems.
The course also improved my confidence in analysing problems and proposing structured solutions rather than reacting informally.
What are your favourite aspects / greatest challenges of your current role?
I enjoy identifying risks early and thinking through how systems can be improved to avoid future problems, especially in a regulated industry like energy. I also enjoy the organisational side of the role, including reviewing processes and documentation.
The biggest challenge is that I am not involved in day-to-day management, so changes take time and require cooperation from others. This has taught me patience and how to communicate ideas clearly and practically.
What do you think Nottingham Law School has given you above and beyond a qualification?
Nottingham Law School gave me professional discipline and confidence in my judgement. It helped me develop a calm, logical approach to complex situations. These qualities have stayed with me beyond the classroom and continue to shape how I approach work and responsibility.
Finally, is there anything else you’d like to share?
My advice to students is to focus on building transferable skills rather than chasing job titles. Legal training teaches discipline, structure, and critical thinking that are valuable in many career paths. Being open to different ways of applying your degree can create unexpected opportunities.
Some of my favourite memories from NTU are the sense of community and the opportunities to get involved beyond lectures. I enjoyed spending time at the Global Lounge, with activities, language sessions, and food from around the world. The Home at Halls programme was also a highlight, offering fun activities for accommodation students, like clay making, and support like providing food during exams. I also appreciated the gym space, which was a great way to stay active and meet fellow students.
Additionally, I took part in workshops on negotiation and mediation, and receiving positive feedback and appreciation from a lecturer after one of these sessions was a memorable and motivating experience. These moments made my time at NTU feel vibrant, supportive, and truly engaging.
