More about Harsh

"I am currently in my final year of study on LLB International Law and will be pursuing a master's degree at NTU. I am hoping to stay in this field, using all the skills I have gained during my studies to work for an International Law organisation. I have always been an enthusiast of law and this area of study has piqued my interest since I was in college, however, it can be textbook-heavy, so having the time to be outdoors, in greenery, and in nature is a nice change. My passion for hiking and exploring came from my enjoyment of the outdoors as relaxation from my studies, I also knew that the skills I wanted to develop from this hobby were time management, communication, and persistence; all of which I have applied to my studies at NTU and will use in my future career. However, I did find there to be some barriers to pursuing this hobby. For starters, hiking equipment can be quite expensive, especially for a student budget.

"The Opportunity Bursary helped me with the cost of equipment, enabling me to pursue something I really enjoy and to have a social outlet outside of studying. This support also allowed me to take part in events with the university hiking society and also with other people and organisations outside of the NTU community.

"The social side of these events has helped to strengthen my public speaking and communication skills; something that will benefit me in a legal career and beyond. Spending my free time in the outdoors has also led me to consider ways to further combine my passion for law with my passion for the environment, and I am starting to look into Environmental Law as an area to pursue in my future studies.

"Thank you very much for your donations! Many students miss out on opportunities to develop key skills and experiences like these that could be gained so easily with some financial support. For some students, just that extra £165 goes a long way, especially during such a difficult time with the high cost of living when even the smallest amount makes a huge difference."
