More about Hilda

Why did you choose NTU and Nottingham Law School?

I chose NTU and NLS based on the amazing recommendations an alum gave me and I have also experienced it first-hand. Also, apart from my intended course being taught excellently at NTU, the application process was seamless and user-friendly.

Why did you choose postgraduate study at NTU?

To travel, gain new experiences, knowledge and acquire the best skills.

What inspired you to study law?

I cried a lot at the sight of injustice being done to people, so I grew up loving the law and how it can help me fight for justice and human rights. I practised criminal & corporate law for five years in Nigeria before coming to the UK and I wanted something different, something new, so I decided to give energy law a shot.

What do you enjoy about your course?

I enjoyed the practical aspect of it as my course is something one can relate to.  The world is evolving and moving from fossil fuel to carbon-free emissions, thus, I am intrigued by the new policies, capital-intensive investment, and the new technologies involved among other factors.

What mark out of 10 would you give for your course facilities and why?

9.99. This is because it is near perfection if not perfect considering the serene and conducive learning environment, the team of lecturers, the computerised NOW learning room, and the well-equipped library among others. What else can one ask for?

How would you promote NTU to potential students in 10 words or fewer?

Best facilities, impactful, staff are approachable, home away from home.

If you have a (non-academic) problem who would you talk to? What would you do?

There are a whole lot of people to talk to, my personal tutor is always available, and my lecturers, especially Dr Fayokemi & Dr Mark Chadwick. The Student Union and Winners Chapel where I fellowship have also been of help amongst others.

Finally, is there anything else you’d like to share?

Firstly, I want to use this platform to show my appreciation to NTU for the award of the International Excellence Scholarship, it means a lot to me, and I am most grateful. I applied shortly after I was offered admission! The application was in the form of essays, why I choose the course I did, why I chose NTU and why I should be offered a scholarship.

I wrote passionately expressing my inner most thoughts and feelings. A few weeks later I was in the court on a case when the email came in that I have been offered 50% scholarship! I screamed, I couldn’t believe it! It was a dream come true. I believe NTU is a place where dreams come true therefore if anyone is interested I will advise them to act fast, the earlier the better. The applications both for the admission and scholarship are quite simple and there are different departments to help them achieve their goals such as africa@ntu.ac.uk among others. Just email them for guidance.

Secondly, I want to assure those who are indecisive as to whether to come to NTU or not, when you come, it will be one of the best decisions you will ever make.

Lastly, I have been impacted especially in the area of critical thinking, therefore, NTU, thank you for every second of my stay here.
