More about Paige
Why did you choose to study Law?
I chose to study law to learn the skills to advocate for those who are not able to advocate for themselves. I have a keen interest in laws which are people focused. I chose the subjects on my law degree, as far as possible, to reflect this.
Why did you choose to study the BPTC at Nottingham Law School?
I chose to study the BPTC at Nottingham Law School as I undertook my degree at the University of Nottingham. This means that I knew the city well and knew a bit about NTU from my participation in the Pathways to Law programme which I undertook during my A-Levels to gain an understanding unto university and a law degree.
Why did you make the decision to study the BPTC?
For myself, traditional advocacy is at its height in the Magistrates and Crown Courts. I have a keen interest in Criminal Law and the way to undertake such advocacy is as a barrister. I did not know if it would be possible to undertake the BPTC on a full-time basis due to the costs involved. However, fortunately, I was awarded a substantial scholarship from the Inner Temple which funded the course.
Does the “real” NTU match what you’d imagined? How does it compare with your friends experience at other universities?
I think that NTU is often underplayed because it is a polytechnic university rather than a Russel Group; the fact is NTU is a very professional environment with top tier facilities that has won numerous awards in recent years for it’s standards in teaching. It is a University on the rise.
How did you find the transition from undergraduate to postgraduate study?
The BPTC is definitely an intense course. At Undergraduate level I was able to select topics to learn from the exams. However, there is no such luck on the BPTC where you need to know every aspect of each subject to succeed. Otherwise, the practical elements are much more enjoyable, as opposed to the black letter aspects of my law degree.
How would you promote NTU to potential students in 10 words or fewer?
NTU offers experienced practioners who are knowledgeable about their areas of law which is essential for the BPTC.
What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?
Friendly, open, quaint.
