More about Het

What made you choose to study at NTU?

I choose NTU because of its strong reputation in Bioscience and excellent teaching quality with awards received by NTU. Also, NTU's central location in the midlands made it more accessible as well compared to other universities I was been offered with. The course content was also well-structured and up to date.

What has been the highlight of your course so far?

My placement experience has been best highlight of my course, which gave me hands on lab experience and deepened my technical skills and also gave me a real insight into research environment. I also had opportunity to present my work in international conferences which really boosted my confidence and communication skills. Lastly, my placement made it clear on what I want to do in future after I complete the course.

Do you do any voluntary work alongside your studying?

Yes, alongside my studies I have been involved in several voluntary roles. I have volunteered with a local food bank, which was a rewarding way to support the community. In addition, I have worked with Nottingham City Council helping to organise public engagement events at Wollaton Hall, which gave me experience in event planning and working with diverse groups of people.

What is your future plans after graduation?

After graduation, I hope to continue into postgraduate study such as PhD or research-based role in infectious diseases or antimicrobial development. Ultimately, I want to contribute to solutions for global health challenges like antimicrobial resistance.

How have you found studying at NTU - has it helped develop skills for your chosen career?

Absolutely, NTU has helped me develop both technical and transferrable skills from lab techniques and data analysis to communication, teamwork and project management. The support from staff and the chance to apply what I have learned during my placement has really prepared me for a career in microbiology.

What advice would you give to others?

I would say that take every opportunity you can and especially placements or internships as they give you and edge and help you figure out what you enjoy doing. Also, do not hesitate to involve in projects or events outside your course as NTU offers loads of ways to grow both academically and personally.
