Why NTU…
Why did you choose NTU and your course?
I choose NTU because of the open day I have attended in the year before joining university. I was really impressed with all the facilities and all the teaching staff around Criminology.
Could you describe your experience of being an NTU student?
It has been incredible. I have gathered amazing experiences from practicing sports at university but also socialising and meeting new people throughout my degree.
How would you describe the support from your tutors, university staff and student services?
The support from my tutors, university staff and student services has been outstanding. I have faced some issues with student finance and student services have given me all the support I needed. I have also faced some personal circumstances and my tutor as well a few other lecturers have helped me massively. Staff at NTU always go that extra mile and that is what makes this university and community unique.
Outside of the Lecture Theatre…
What three words would you use to describe Nottingham?
Beautiful
Unique
Friendly
Where is a good place to eat, drink or visit in the city?
Eat: Bistrot Pierre
Drink: Gooseberry Bush Pub
Visit: Wollaton Park
Did you find it easy to make friends and settle in at NTU?
Yes, and I am sure I will take a lot of friendships I have made to life.
The Next Steps…
Has the employability team helped you plan for life beyond NTU?
Yes. NTU has been providing to third years some employability advice sessions and they have been amazing. They also offer support after three years of graduating so there is a sense of care from the university to the student after graduating
What would you say to someone who is thinking of applying to NTU?
Do it and you will not regret. NTU is an amazing university with amazing staff and people.
What is one thing you wish you knew before starting at NTU?
Brackenhurst campus was not that far. It is a beautiful campus and I only found out recently that it is only 15 miles away
As an International Student...
Why did you want to study in the UK?
I lived in the UK before studying and I was not sure about what to study. When I found what courses and facilities the UK universities had to offer, it really gave me extra motivation to get back to studies. I really liked the way the high education is taught, examined, and marked.
What experiences have you had as an international student at NTU?
I have good experiences from attending international events where there was Hispanic/Portuguese music. Additionally, I have met some other international students and the way we go along is so natural and positive.
What advice would you give to help new international students get settled in at university?
Try to join societies and clubs. Societies because there are a good range of societies from other countries and by joining them, they would meet new people from their home country. Sports because it might be quite overwhelmed studying aboard and by joining a club, it would help to ease the stress and meeting new people.
