Frequently asked questions about creative short courses

Your short course questions answered

Whether you are a total beginner, have some experience or are already a practitioner in your chosen subject, we welcome everyone on short courses. All we ask is that you have read the course description and booking terms and conditions and are over the age of 18.

Our evening, Saturday and summer courses are aimed at adult learners. However, we do offer a parallel summer programme in July and August for those aged 15 - 17. These courses are great for building a portfolio and experiencing art and design school for the first time. Find out more about courses for 15 - 17 year olds.

Nope! Our courses are open to adults of all ages and experience.

Our classes are practical which means we have to limit their size. To avoid disappointment we suggest you book early. We take bookings up until the day the course starts so long as there is space.

All courses are online with live registers. Once the limit is reached the status on the website will change to 'fully booked' and a waiting list will begin.

The price of each course is advertised on the respective course page. The fee is the same for everyone who attends regardless of age, nationality or employment status. All fees include VAT.

We aren't able to offer help with fees for our creative short courses. However, we do offer a 10% discount for returning customers, NTU staff, NTU students and NTU alumni.

You will be awarded with a certificate of attendance at the end of the course. You must have attended at least 80% of the course to be eligible for the certificate.

It really depends on the subject. For computer based courses classes are usually capped at seven or eight people. For practical photography our class sizes are up to ten people and for studio-based classes up to 15 people.

We offer accommodation during the summer only. We are unable to offer university accommodation during term time but you can find plenty of places to stay on the Visit Nottinghamshire website.

All of our creative short courses take place on the Nottingham Trent University city campus in the center of Nottingham. We are serviced by great transport links by bus, tram and rail and there is plenty of parking nearby. You'll be working in the same studios and workshops that our full-time students use.

You do not need to be interviewed or show a portfolio to attend a short course. The course description will describe who the course is designed for; some will be for professionals, some for beginners and some will be open to a a mix of abilities and backgrounds. You can book and pay instantly for your course using our secure online store which is linked from each course page.

As well as the course description the website also lists what you need to bring with you on the first day of your course, and what you might need as the course progresses.

We are committed to making our courses accessible to everyone. If you have any questions or wish to check access or support then please contact us. We will liaise with our Student Support Service who are in contact with outside agencies and who might be able to support customers with additional requirements.

You will only have access to the studios or workshops during your designated class time. However, you can access our city centre library for reference and research (but you can't reserve items or take them away).
