The Design and Technology (D&T) Association Awards are held annually to celebrate excellence in D&T education. Now in its 20th edition, the event is a showcase of those making a positive impact on students’ development in the subject.

The Excellence Awards are made following a nomination and independent judging process. Each of the award categories has specific criteria which are used to select the winners who each receive a framed certificate containing a citation.

Nominations came in from D&T teachers across the UK for Nottingham Trent University (NTU) technical specialist, Kerry, who won the Supporting Design and Technology Award.

Recommendations cited Kerry’s exceptional support and guidance, generosity of time and innovation in the subject. From running events for GCSE and A-level teachers, to visits and remote sessions for their students, Kerry’s commitment to knowledge-sharing and teaching was evident in his various recognitions.

Kerry reflected on the award: “The Design and Technology community is full of staff and students who bring so much knowledge and passion to the subject in Schools across the country. To be nominated for a national Design and Technology Association Teaching Excellence award is a privilege in itself, but to then go on and win… this is a fantastic achievement.”

“I have found that maintaining links with Schools both locally and nationally has been a very positive and rewarding personal experience. The support we can offer subjects like Design and Technology is invaluable and helps to create a community of shared learning and support for teachers and their pupils.”

“Having been a Technician at NTU for some 33 years now, supporting an exciting and diverse subject group, we have excellent opportunity to share knowledge and working practice and supporting learning in and out of curriculum. Why only share this with our own NTU community when opportunities for outreach can be taken?”
