The British Farming Awards recognises British farmers and agricultural businesses for their commitment, resilience and innovation to an industry that consistently serves the nation. Some of the country's most talented and vibrant farmers have been shortlisted across 15 categories, highlighting the exciting and pioneering work being carried out across UK agriculture.

Congratulations to Daisy Haigh, a recent graduate who studied BSc (Hons) Agriculture at NTU, for being shortlisted in the 'Agricultural Student of the Year' category. Daisy commented on her achievements: "It’s such an honour to be nominated, nevermind shortlisted, in the British Farming Awards. NTU has given me the opportunity and flexibility to achieve my academic goals as well as my practical goals with starting my own business and working in the agricultural industry at the same time as studying for my degree.”

The BSc (Hons) Agriculture course, which is offered by the School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences, focuses on innovative approaches to agriculture and provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to apply sustainable agriculture practices and play a part in global food security. This is perhaps why NTU is top 15 in the UK for Agriculture and Forestry courses according to the Complete University Guide 2023.

Julia Davies, Acting Deputy Dean for the School, comments on Daisy's success on the course: "We are so proud of Daisy and what she has achieved. Daisy studied BSc (Hons) Agriculture at NTU whilst also working for her own business delivering livestock fertility services. She always produced excellent work throughout her time at NTU and was awarded the top student prize for her year. She has secured a fantastic job with the NFU as a Bovine TB Policy Advisor; we would love to see her with this prestigious British Farming Award!"

The winner of the award will be announced at the awards ceremony taking place on Thursday 19 October in Birmingham; we'd like to wish Daisy good luck.
