Nottingham’s universities invite local community to become citizen scientists
Nottingham Trent University and the University of Nottingham are inviting people from the local community to apply to become citizen scientists by taking part in a 10-week paid research placement.

The Co(l)laboratory programme is an eight-year ambitious project under the Universities for Nottingham initiative which aims to bring together academia and the community to tackle local challenges under the five themes of the Civic Agreement: economic prosperity; education partnership, skills and employment; environmental sustainability; health and wellbeing; and community connections.
The Citizen Scientist Research Placements aim to give local candidates with promising experience and new ways of thinking opportunities to contribute to positive change for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire communities, through practical research experience. Placements are designed to be carried out over 111 hours across 10-weeks.
Applications are open for the next cohort and close at 12pm on Wednesday 6 March. Study will begin on 22 April 2024.
Candidates are eligible to apply if they are a resident in Nottingham or Nottinghamshire, and are not currently enrolled in study at any university or research institution. The team are looking for those who have a curiosity to learn, the motivation to develop their skills and to get involved in a project that will make a positive difference to the local community.
The 2024 Citizen Scientist Research Projects have been developed in collaboration with local community organisations and are entitled:
- What is the current situation in Nottingham with South Asian young men’s involvement in serious organised gangs?
- Shaping better models of healthcare service provision for people with long-term health conditions in Nottingham communities
- The perspectives of late-diagnosed autistic adults on local post-diagnostic support in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire
