Nurturing Future Fashion Marketers: A Transformative Trip to Liverpool

In an enriching educational escapade, our MA Fashion Marketing students recently embarked on a remarkable trip to Liverpool, a city renowned for its vibrant culture and fashion-forward thinking. This journey was not only a testament to our commitment to practical, hands-on learning but also a showcase of the potential our students hold in shaping the future of fashion marketing.

The highlight of the trip was an exclusive day visit to The Very HQ, graciously hosted by Mark Stocker, Head of Creative. Our students were immersed in a series of talks by professionals from various departments, including PR, communications, and influencer marketing. This provided them with a comprehensive view of the industry's multifaceted nature and the synergy required among different sectors to drive a brand's success. Moreover, witnessing a live photo shoot for GymShark, one of Very’s collaborating brands, offered them a real-time glimpse into the intricacies of fashion marketing and branding.

A focal point of this educational journey was the opportunity for our students to work on a live industry brief from V by Very which they were tasked with as a summative assessment. Charged with the challenge to resonate with women aged 30-45, they delved into researching current trends, aligning them with the values of Very. The creativity and strategic thinking displayed in their campaigns were nothing short of inspiring. Special mentions go to Graciella Violetta, Parul Kalru, and Dhruv Kejriwal, whose campaigns stood out for their innovative approaches to addressing peri-menopause, escapism, and breast cancer awareness, respectively. All three students received goody bags from Very but a big congratulations to Dhruv, whose proposed collaboration with the Pink Ribbon Foundation was chosen as the winning campaign, earning him valuable work experience with Very.

Adding to the richness of this experience, our students had the privilege of meeting the founders of By Elleven, an independent sustainable streetwear brand, on the following day. Through engaging presentations and workshop activities, By Elleven opened up about the realities of running a small fashion brand, from the advantages of agility and personal touch to the challenges of scaling and sustainability. This interaction was not just educational but also opened doors for 12 lucky students who have since been offered the opportunity to work on two live projects with By Elleven.

This trip to Liverpool was more than just a visit; it offered our students a unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of a large fashion brand like Very, and gain invaluable insights into the operations of a small independent brand like By Elleven. The experiences shared, knowledge gained, and connections made during this trip are invaluable, shaping our students into well-rounded professionals ready to make their mark in the fashion industry.

As we reflect on this memorable trip, we are reminded of the importance of practical, real-world experiences in education. It's these experiences that equip our students with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to navigate the complexities of the fashion marketing world. We look forward to continuing to support our students in their journey towards becoming the next generation of fashion marketing leaders.
